Charlotte bigger than atlanta?  That doesnt seem right...are they just counting in city limits...i know atlanta sprawls big time.

City limits charlotte has been ahead of atlanta for some time.

Metro is a different story. They are about 3.5 mil or so and we are like 1.7

Im surprised Charlotte is bigger than Atlanta.

I'm also surprised Jacksonville is 12th. (Never been there so this might be a dumb statement lol).

Many years ago Jacksonville annexed the entire county so they have inflated numbers to some degree.

Those numbers are flawed and misleading in the sense that you're thinking about it, as those numbers only count people within the actual political boundary of the cities. Jacksonville is the largest city by area in the continental United States, so its population is inflated.

Is greater Jacksonville actually more populated than, say, Miami? No, because much of what we know and think of as Miami are technically separate cities and suburbs surrounding Miami.

All I'm asking is that the media doesn't trash our team, and pick against us without watching any of our games. That's all I want. At the start of this season a major expert for a major NFL website said on camera "The Carolina Panthers are a lousy franchise. They have a lousy team, and they will have a lousy losing season." They then predicted that we would lose to the Jaguars. An expert then came on this forum and told us directly that we would lose to the Jaguars. The trendy popular pick was that the Jaguars, a team that has been horrible for over a decade, would beat our NFCS champion team.

This how things started for us in the media right out of the gate. fug me. I don't want to be slapped in the face by the media right before the damn season starts. The narrative then became "the Panthers are the worst 6-0, 7-0, 8-0 ect team ever." fug that. They would NEVER pull that with Eagles. They deliberately put a negative spin on our team. They don't watch our games, and then pick us to lose to inferior teams and give illogical reasons for why. They don't pull that bullshit on the Eagles and big market northern teams. Not happening.

This season Panther fans and players went on the attack against members of the media who were trashing our team without even watching our games. The experts took note of our attacks, and some of them tried to make amends by saying some positive things about our team. For instance, the video where our franchise and team was called lousy was taken down due to complains. The following video put up was basically nothing but our team getting it's collective ass kissed. Very positive toward our team. The counter attacks have gone on all season, and even Josh Norman is involved.

Sports journalists have a choice as to what type of spin they put on their articles. They can go positive, negative, or neutral. It's their call. The reason that they choose to go extremely negative is because fans of large market northern teams hate the Panthers, and they hate North Carolina, and the south in general. To appease the north, sports writers poo on the Panthers. It's a tradition. We're lucky that we now appear dominant, but if we lose our dominance for any reason they'll go back on the attack. It's just a matter of time.

Of course not...But just like I drive from Winston-Salem to Charlotte for the games, out in Dallas or Houston, I'm sure there are bunches of folks that drive from Austin, Round Rock...probably San Antonio to one of the larger markets.  Gotta draw the "market" line somewhere.  Clear as mud when you start drawing it up based on the population within the areas people drive from.

the "market" line for the panthers is the combined outlying north carolina and south carolina borders.

sooner or later people will grasp that concept.

Just watch and enjoy your team.  No talking head in the media should ruin that for you.  To be honest the national media roots for the "blue blood" organizations.  (Cowboys, Packers, Steelers, 49ers, Giants, and I guess the Patriots now).  They hate the fact that the Panthers are in the Super Bowl because they don't follow this organization like the others.  Sorry but this is what you are going to have to live with as a Panther fan.  They're aren't going to put a ton of effort into covering this team.

The Internet, social media and 24-7 sports coverage for better or worse allows any team to be positioned to have the potential of a market impact well beyond its MSA/TSA study.

Years ago your coverage was limited to newspaper and tv/radio sports segments during news sports.............in those days a major market was critical to obtain coverage.........not today.

What is "small market" about Charlotte today is their local tv and radio sports talent/coverage...........it pales to that of NYC, Chicago, Phila etc..........

This is a horrible town for local sports radio talk shows..........there are so few and they are pedestrian at best.

The Atlanta metro is ranked 9th in the country with nearly 6 million people over a 5-county area. The actual city of Atlanta is limited to lower Fulton county and parts of unincorporated Cobb county. So many satellite neighborhoods de-annexed that the area which most people consider the city of Atlanta is actually a combination of a bunch of entities like Sandy Springs, Vinings, Decatur, Dunwoody, College Park, etc. in addition to Atlanta proper.

Charlotte metro is ranked 22nd with 2 million and change over a similar sized area.
