Granted a lot of teams span beyond their borders and thus the "footprint" of the team reaches farther and greater numbers. But look at our city! It is freaking huge and getting bigger and bigger all the time. With new kids growing up here and seeing the panthers succeed and Cam gettting tons of kids all over the country into the game. I think we have the basis for one of the biggest markets possible and its not even close.

Look at the fastest growing city list we are number 10.

Most population growth between 2013 and 2014
1. New York, NY: +52,700 (total pop. 8.5 million)
2. Houston, TX : +35,700 (total pop. 2.2 million)
3. Los Angeles, CA: +30,900 (total pop. 3.9 million)
4. Austin, TX: +25,600 (total pop. 912,000)
5. San Antonio, TX: +24,900 (total pop. 1.4 million)
6. Phoenix, AZ: +24,600 (total pop. 1.5 million)
7. San Diego, CA: +21,200 (total pop. 1.4 million)
8. Dallas, TX: +20,300 (total pop. 1.3 million)
9. Fort Worth, TX: +18,100 (total pop. 812,000)
10. Charlotte, NC: +16,000 (total pop. 809,000)

So not only are we big already we are getting bigger all the time. We are a rising city and are ready to support a team in a stronger manner than ever before. Bring on the bandwagoneers! We are ready!

Charlotte bigger than atlanta?  That doesnt seem right...are they just counting in city limits...i know atlanta sprawls big time.

they dont count the "Atlanta Metro Area" neither does the charlotte census count our outlying areas either. Including but not limited to Huntersville, Balintyne, Pineville, Matthews, and so on.

Look into MSA (metropolitan statistical areas) if you want a more accurate reading. Looking into just the population of cities themselves is dumb. For example, Jacksonville is the highest city by area in the continental US, which in turn makes its city-proper population quite high. However, Jacksonville is still one of the NFL's smallest markets because it's metropolitan area is barely larger than its city-proper.

TL;DR: This is absolutely pointless lol. Look at this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Metropolitan_Statistical_Areas if you want to do this at all, but still, a team's reach is more than just its direct market (aka the city it's based in).

As mentioned above, MSA (Metropolitan Statistical Area) is more applicable than the population within the city limits.  With that, the Charlotte MSA is 34th in the 2010 census.  Rank within NFL markets is 27th.  Only smaller NFL MSAs are Nashville, Jacksonville, Buffalo, New Orleans, and Green Bay.

Market size doesnt mean anything, its about who has the most marketable players. We arguably have the most marketable player in the league now. Same goes for the NBA, Curry and Lebron have made teams from Cleveland and Oakland the most popular teams with the most exposure. If we win the Super Bowl and Cam gets the inevitable MVP award he's receiving, I guarantee we probably get at least 5 primetime games next year

Except it's not the Charlotte Panthers

Of course not...But just like I drive from Winston-Salem to Charlotte for the games, out in Dallas or Houston, I'm sure there are bunches of folks that drive from Austin, Round Rock...probably San Antonio to one of the larger markets.  Gotta draw the "market" line somewhere.  Clear as mud when you start drawing it up based on the population within the areas people drive from.
