@pantherking15, excellent analysis! The only thing that I would add is that the Panthers did not cone to play the Falcons the second time around. I know that that truth is not directly based in stats, but the propensity to just relax or not take an opponent seriously that you just beat the crap out of two weeks prior is real. It was a wake up call that has proven to be vital in our quest to finish this season out playing to our capabilities.

I didn't want to mention any off the field stuff in the post, because it may have been seen as making excuses.

There were a lot of things that affected the 2nd game vs the Falcons:

  • Panthers were probably overconfident after beating the Falcons 38-0 and got lax in preparation.
  • Falcons were definitely super motivated to redeem themselves. Remember, the Panthers had beaten the Falcons 34-3 last game of 2014 regular season and again 38-0 this year.
  • Bat-gate, Homophobic slur, Norman/Beckham media distraction
  • Messed up practice schedule
  • Cam having a kid.

Yeah that game was entirely uncharacteristic of our team this year. The defense couldn't get off the field, the o-line was terrible, receivers (including 88) couldn't get open, Cam wasn't great himself, for some reason our coaches abandoned the run despite CAP having like 50 yards on 5 carries. By the way dawg, how about DOWNTOWN PHILLY BROWN on Sunday?

i think their defense will need a 2001 Ravens SB performance for them to have a chance. Unless Peyton miraculously heals or they can finally get their run game going, I don't see them scoring more than 17-21 points. As long as we can give Cam time in the pocket and establish run and play action (easier said than done against the Broncos defense) I feel confident, but I don't see this Super Bowl being a blowout.

The Panthers had a real chance to score 31 points before halftime two weeks in a row.

One unforced error prevented that from happening.

That was playing against the best teams in the NFC... likely the NFL.

Denver and noodle arm Manning average just over 22 points per game.

They are certainly less of a threat than our last two opponents.

This is an excuse!!! We lost that game... This is the only game that really counts this season and we better show up or prepare to for a rough offseason when we have to resign players

The only comparable QB the Broncos have faced this year was Andrew Luck, who they lost to. They would have lost to the steelers had their 7th string RB not fumbled. I thought this game might be close but after seeing a few of their games they aren't anything to write home about. Pretty much on par with the Cardinals, with a worse QB.

if the steelers only lost because of one mistake and one player, that means the Broncos beat a very good team which makes them very good.

the Cardinals had no defense, thats not a great comparison.
worse QB ? Manning is still far superior to Palmer.

he didnt throw an int against the greatest coach of nfl mankind

The Cardinals were ranked 7th in ppg allowed and ranked 6th in rushing yards allowed. They held a Aaron Rodgers led Packers offense, coming off a 35 point game in a road wildcard win, to 13 points before the Hail Mary. The Cardinals not only have a defense but have the type of defense that used to give Cam absolute fits (see 2013 game vs Cardinals). Our O-line and dynamic offense were just too much for them. Our offense puts pressure on the opposing offense to keep up, which causes them to force plays and leads to mistakes which our defense capitalizes on.

until they lost 3 important defenders for the most important game of their present life. That wasnt the 7th ranked defense they were facing.

no, they didnt hold them, they almost lost to two back up wide receivers and a hail mary and couldnt hold them at 4th and 20. Not good stats there.

Which 3? I only know one difference maker they were missing: Tyrann. That's beside the point really. At this point of the season, no team is going to be healthy. It's a war of attrition in the NFL. It's also notable that the Broncos played the Steelers without Antonio Brown, hands down the best WR in the NFL, without Le'Veon Bell, Deangelo Williams, and a hurt Ben Roethlisberger. Additionally, the Patriots were without 3 starting offensive linemen.

while I do think we will in the super bowl, I don't think it will be a blow out of any sort. lets not be like the fans we make fun of from other forums.

Yeah, but I thought the last two games would be close.  It may difficult to not think this game may be any different when you think of it this way.  We've scored 27+ points in 13 of our last 14 games and the other two were with temps near 90.  We're 17th overall in NFL history with 500 points scored and just averaged an 89% chance to beat a team that was only 11 points below us (489) and they only put up 15.  That team also had what was considered a good D, even if it was banged up.  There is a very realistic chance we could average over a 90% chance of winning in-game throughout the playoffs.  That's insane.  I think that's why people believe it will be a blowout.  There is at least factual information to it.

Even though the game ended with a seven-point margin, the Panthers averaged a 95.5 percent chance to win across all their plays, the third-most dominant playoff win in the last eight seasons.

The Panthers began the game with a 52 percent chance to win, but after a number of big plays, they increased their win probability to 90 percent after one quarter. Overall, the Panthers had a 89 percent chance to win across all of the plays in the game, one of the most dominant wins in recent postseason history

The cardinals had a top ten defense in both points and yards clown.

Lmao 2016 manning superior to Palmer on what planet fool?

The steelers had no Brown (who torched the Broncos) no Bell, no Williams and a beat to crap Ben. With a Healthy steelers the donkeys don't make it out of the divisionals.

again, the players that made them a top 10 defense were not in that game, therefore they were not a top 10 anymore.

Yes, Manning is right now and always will be better than Palmer because he has many playoff games and super bowls under his belt and Palmer is home now instead of playing Manning in the game.( i'm obviously talking in general here. I could care less about Palmer having a good year individually because look where it got him,it got him nothing, the player you think is weaker is in the big game again..4 times..because he's superior)

and he will throw professional veteran passes in the super bowl game that Palmer never will.

For someone that claims to have a high football IQ, and has said your a general football fan that prides himself in being right. Your attempts since you joined the Huddle have are a epic failure.

I hope the mods don't ban you. Your to much fun to prove wrong.
