Is the O-line comprised of a bunch of dumbasses?

I'm so sorry to do this, and this is not an attack on you, PhillyB, but this is my biggest grammatical pet peeve.

"Comprised" is not interchangable with "composed." A line can't be "comprised of" idiots. Whether or not the o-line "comprises idiots," or "idiots comprise the o-line" is dabatable.

Again, I'm sorry, and I hate myself for making this post, but it's a cruel byproduct of my profession. Look at it this way, you learned something today, and I always like to go to sleep smarter than I was in the morning.

The O-line was responsible for what happened on Sunday in a big way. We saw unblocked men come in and deliver huge hits on the QB, once resulting in a fumble for a TD. Could Jake have secured the ball better in that situation? Maybe. Regardless, the guy who hit him should've been blocked and instead he had a clear shot at 17.

I'm not picking on the Hoov but he didn't look too good Sunday either especially on that goal line play.

Yeah, I noticed that too. On one of the goal line plays he practically tackled Stewart. He was late getting his block in and basically dove in front of Stewart's legs, causing him to fall short of the endzone.

At any level, even pee wee football, the simplest principle of pass protection is to block the guys on the inside first. Then, if the blockers are outnumbered, at least the unblocked guy has to go all the way around the outside to get to the QB. Most of the pressure Sunday came right up the middle. Kalil had a really bad game. He was run over at least once by a blitzer, allowed unblocked rushers straight up the middle several times while he was double teaming a DT. As the center, you have to be creatively bad to have a false start. I really missed Hangartner after watching that Buffalo game. He seldom if ever made a mental mistake.

<Not a Jake apologist. He was about as accurate as the sprinkler system that waters my lawn and his decision making about where to throw the ball was atrocious.

Or maybe it does and your experience within the profession has taught you incorrectly. :P

Also I think it's DEbatable and not DAbatable. I'm pretty sure. Just sayin.

http://www.panthers.com/news/article-1/O-line-shoulders-blame/3d17f9ec-cc52-4c3c-93ae-1ea55be72197

This is just one of many instances this week of Gross, Kalil, etc stepping up and going out of their way to defend jake's play as their fault. Has the Panthers organization completely duped these five guys? How is it that a couple dozen Carolina Huddle posters can see the obvious truth, but these guys who are down on the field with jake every single play don't have a clue what's going on?

They know whats going on more than any of us fans .

But as a team, its in their intrest to support Jake and do and say whatever to help him stay focused.

The last thing the players need or want is a slew of reporters asking them thousands of questions B /C someone slipped up and said it was all Jake .

Better to spread the blame around and keep the reporters from a frenzy and Q B conterversies [sp]

I'm sure if you could get a O-L to talk straight,He would tell ya Jake has problems

but was the OL that bad....or was the play calling bad leaving everyone in a position to fail when the blitz was obviously coming. I mean the OL could be doing there job but they could simply be asked to do the wrong things based on the heavy blitz coming at them.
yes it was that bad. did you read the things they said were happening?

that is what they are supposed to do. jake still couldn't handle the pressure and the coaches couldn't figure a way to deal with it but the oline looked really bad. they were letting people through all day. it was like watching houston while carr was there before he was shell shocked.

it was bad.

actually you did a fair job proving my point. You see the definition of the word includes "of." "Composed of." So saying "comprised of" is superfluous, basically "composed of of." Thanks for playing, and I'll also thank you not to insult me.
