Broncos run D; Smoke and mirriors?

Broncos defense has struggled with the power running game up the middle and misdirection running plays all season. They are overly aggressive and hedge their bets to cover their weaknesses. Typical Son of Bum defense.

If a team runs a spread offense, short passing game, and a stretch running game, then the Broncos D will look like world beaters.

This means the only games the Broncos D has played outside of this box are the Ravens and Bears. Both of those teams were not physical at all this season on offense. Broncos beat the Ravens 19-13 and the Bears 17-15. Both teams employ pocket passers. Then you factor in that those teams scored 9 points combined in the first half.

The Panthers are #2 in NFL history for scoring margin by halftime. Think about that for a moment. That means the Broncos have to dig themselves out of a hole in the 2nd half. The Panthers hit teams with a hay-maker on offense and defense right out of the gate. This takes the defense out of the game early and causes panic. The Panthers will have that Broncos defense pointing fingers at each other before the half just like the Seahawks and Cardinals.

To compare: The Panthers are #1 in scoring margin by halftime this season at +193. That is nearly double #2 Patriots at +109 and #3 Bengals at +103. The Chiefs are #4 at +92, and the Broncos are #9 at +38. The Broncos trailed the Chiefs by 19 at the half, trailed the Bengals by 11 at the half, and trailed the Patriots by 7 at the half. The Chiefs game was a loss and the other two had to go to OT. So, how many points do you think the Broncos will trail the Panthers at the half?

Here is another interesting stat. The Broncos have scored more than 27 points in 3 out of 18 games. The Panthers have scored less than 27 points in 3 out of 18 games.

And also NE needs to be at home, heard a stat last night, don't know if true, probably is but here it is ,NE is 0-9 on the road in the playoffs. Could be the last 9 away playoff games tho.

From seeing what we did this year. It sure does not hurt thats for sure.

NE is 3-4 with Brady in the playoffs. Not necessarily a good record, but not 0-9 either. I think we could have beaten Denver on the road, but Oline injuries and just overall terrible play of that unit really restricted what we could do no offense. Even then, the missed XP and going for it on 4th down instead of taking the FG really is what really cost us the game.

I expect Carolina to lay a smack down of epic proportions of Denver.

This is the stat that matters most......we faced a top 5 defense four times this season.  We are 4-0 in those games.  Bronco fans can chirp all they want about their defense being better than anyone else but nobody has stopped us yet.  They think because they marginally contained the Patriots that we should be a piece of cake, however we don't pass 50 times a game to undersized receivers (outside of Gronk) for 3 yards at a time.  We punch you in the mouth, we maul you, we wear you down, and knock your dick in the dirt.  I predict we come out strong and steamroll those clowns in the first half and all the halftime talk will be about whether or not Manning gets pulled for Osweiller to finish the game.

Doubt Manning lasts four quarters.

May very well have a Carson like performance.

He will be pulled for his passing or to preserve his health.

According to @tarheels since Denver already played the Vikes, and Teddy B is basically Cam... WE ARE DOOOOOOOOOMED!!!

no, i'm just saying its similar and nothing ground breaking.

I am saying the Panthers are the weaker side because they have no post season experience team wide like Denver does.

everyone thought the healthy Pats were supposed to clown Denver as well.

Healthy Pats?

Pats had 18 players on IR, including 6 starters. Two of those were quality offensive linemen who helped them win a SB last year. Another was Dion Lewis who was probably the most dynamic player in the league before he went down. Edelman wasn't 100% either.

I don't really understand the point of downplaying your upcoming opponent. The game will be played out on the field not with stats. It's similar to saying the team you just beat sucks and at the same time complaining about people questioning your schedule. I am not saying this was done by the thread starter but just in generall

    • Strange, every news article and tweet I just searched all mentioned waivers. It is definitely his sixth year of at least 6 games. All I was trying to think of earlier was at the vet min could he beat out Bryce in camp next year lol. He's kinda got the old Darnold issue where he can obviously launch deep balls and qb run at a level Bryce will never achieve, but it sounds like he would be content being like a Josh Allen backup who doesn't throw the whole game plan out the window if he has to come in for a series or two. If we had him and for some reason still wanted to start Bryce he would kinda do what Justin Fields was doing the other night with Dangeruss, coming in for designed runs and maybe some play action/triple option rpo things to go deep. That would be so obvious and sad though. At least Russ can still sling it 40 yards in the air with a flick of the wrist
    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
