This is borderline dumb, cutting one player propelled us to the super bowl huh? Not Rivera learning how to be a better coach along with the vast improvement in o line play, Norman putting it all together , Cam growing even further into a Elite qb, emergence of KK.....none of this was more important to our super bowl run then releasing smith?

we made the playoffs with smith in the team btw

Cam would never have been MVP with Smith on the team. Cam has DOMINATED this team when it comes to celebrations and leadership; he doesn't do that if he had to deal with the old man with the Napoleon complex thinking he's too dumb to score in the red zone.

I think you guys are underestimating Cam, he's been the same person every year he just finally put everything together this year, the talent has always been there, the personality, the maturity but this year he has made great descion making , increased accuracy, and has became even more clutch. Again I don't think smith was preventing that from happening, or another player since some argue KB being out has help cam progress which is BS to. It was inevitable that this would happen IMO, Cam just happen to put it all together earlier then I thought. The whole

Cam is dumb in the redzone thing id have to look up,most smith comments are taken out of context, still doesn't mean he says stupid things at times

Honestly you think we would be playing in the Super Bowl if Smitty was still on the team?   No a chance he was a cancer that had to be removed.

If you consider him a cancer I don't know what to tell you, you have your opinion and I have mind. But yes we would be in the Super Bowl, not one player could stop what cam has done this year Period.

Your opinion contradicts Gettleman's. Good thing his is the only one that counts. He decided Smith didn't fit within the vision he had for this team and sent him packing. EVERY little move got us to this point. And yes pushing Smith out is a part of that. DG saw a problem and fixed it. Smith still being on the team would set us back whether you choose to believe it or not.

I respect Steve Smith and he was and still is, a great player.  The problem would be in the locker room.  The Panthers might not be where they are now if Steve had stayed.

After Ginn's first few drops Smith would have ripped him apart and wrecked him mentally instead of building him back up like Cam has.

Wrong time to be having this convo. I'm sure we'll have 20+ pages on this topic after the big game. Let's wait till then. Smitty reaction to the result of the game, win/lose will reveal a lot and sway the narrative too.

Easy to say given the circumstance and don't try and spin this as some I want smith on this team bs like you did at the beginning of your comment. That's not

the point im

making, we made the same kind of run in 2013 this team did this year, and smith was on the team......once again regardless him being here or not, the same outcome would have occurred,us in Super Bowl 50. Trying to

spin it as one person holding the team back is dumb really dumb given that we won the division three years in a row. If you want to believe one player had to be released to go to a Super Bowl go ahead but the notion itself sounds stupid

You honestly think we would have made it this far with Smitty? He would have been in Cams ear all the time to pass him the ball and our other receivers wouldn't have grown. Have 12 years of proof on that one and you cant deny it.  Cam would have went the way of Jake not being able to read the field and relying to much on Smitty.

With Smitty gone it help Cam become the QB he is.

Loved Smitty when he first played here but his routine got old quick.
