The narrative that Cam finally learned how to play QB this season

Why? Because, 6 out of 6 of their mock draft people picked Newton. Previously 5 out of 6 picked Blaine Gabbert (though they didn't say when that was).

And why did "6 out of 6" pick Newton?

Because the word had started to get out at that point that the Panthers, having done their due diligence, had decided to pick Newton.

Dude, why you are trying to rehabilitate the hate that Newton endured in 2011 to some kind of "respect", I don't know.  BUT IT DIDN'T HAPPEN THAT WAY.

Exactly/Bingo!

I never said there wasn't hate against Newton before the 2011 draft. Of course there was.

But that's not what we were arguing (at least me). You're taking about media noise. I don't care about them, cause they don't count (though they appear to do so here). I was speaking about NFL people, and the Panthers.

Again; I couldn't care less what media and TV say. They do not impact decision making with NFL teams. This would only happen, when a struggling, or dumb team or owner just wants to recklessly make a splash, or take a chance (on A Golden Calf of Bristol, Manziel, or home town player for example) to please fans, or the press. And I'm just throwing you a bone with that one. Cause it's almost certainly not done with high picks, if ever with top 5 picks. And of course, media don't have their own draft pick to begin with.

As I said: Don't think for one minute the Panthers would choose Newton as #1, and if they didn't, he would have been drafted #10, #19 or something (as some of y'all make it sound). That's not how it works. Not at all. Because NFL teams many times share pool scouts or services. And even their own individual due diligence can duplicate other teams, and/or come to the similar conclusions.

That type of scenario can happen (teams being far off with draft picks), let's say with mid to later round 1st rd pics (or lower 1st to a higher 2nd, etc.). But not with top 5 picks. NFL Executives can loose their jobs for that if/when they make a reach pick that high. Doesn't mean players aren't bust, or don't work out. That happens all the time. But teams would not take a big risk with a #1 or top 5 pick. Trust me on that.

PS: Regarding Newton's coverage since being in the NFL: Yeah. It's been bad many times. Unfortunately, sports media today is more entertainment than sport. We just have to accept that. Very few actually watch enough teams, do proper research, notice, or are even capable of properly judging various players. We see the embarrassing articles or soundbites posted here all the time. For example: Charlie Casserly, recently said on NFL Network, 'Keep Newton in the pocket, where's he's not as accurate throwing, compared to outside the pocket'. LMAO. So yeah.

Nonetheless, I'm sure we both wish the Panthers well tomorrow!?

Hey Tiger.

Hope you're ready for the game today.

Here's the Mayock thing I mentioned yesterday, ironically illustrating both our points. LOL

By this time (as the draft draws near), there's a consensus, or near consensus in the media that Cam is the #1 pick, such as the USA today article I presented yesterday, with all six of their Draft "experts" choosing Cam #1. Previously, 5 of 6 of their "experts" chose Blaine Gabbert as the #1 pick.

As I said: NFL teams, and the Panthers had already long known this after doing their due diligence. Then Media (such as Adam Schefter at ESPN who NBC quotes below, and NBC itself responding to Cam as the "Consensus #1 pick" with this article, etc.) picked up on it.

However, Mike Mayock disagrees; is trying to go against the tide, for whatever reason. He states, he's not sure the Panthers will pick him. And if they do, they may even trade the pick (LMAO). Here it is:

We don’t have a Cam Newton-to-Panthers consensus quite yet

Posted by Gregg Rosenthal on April 20, 2011, 3:20 PM EST

Earlier this week, ESPN’s Adam Schefter said he would estimate there was an 80% chance the Panthers will draft Cam Newton.  The fun part about this draft is that no one really knows for sure.

NFL Network’s Mike Mayock, for one, isn’t convinced the Panthers will take Newton.

“I feel very strongly that Carolina would like to trade out of the No. 1 overall pick,” Mayock said on a conference call Wednesday.

If the Panthers keepthe pick, Mayock thinks they still might not take Newton.  He believes Marcell Dareus and Patrick Peterson would be the other options there, interestingly not mentioning A.J. Green.

It’s hard to imagine Newton falling far with Buffalo and Cincinnati sitting at No.3 and No. 4.

Still, it’s not a lock just yet that Newton will be a Carolina Panther.  Mayock has consistently put out one of the most accurate mock drafts before the draft.  If he’s not convinced Newton is the pick, we’re not convinced just yet either.

Ok. Here's NBC trying to buck the tide, cause of Mayock.

Nonetheless, NBC says "it's hard to imagine Newton falling far with Buffalo and Cincinnati sitting at 3 and no. 4 (illustrating what I been saying, that Cam couldn't go from a #1 to a #10, 15, 19, etc., pick by another team)". Those teams were strong for Newton (not just the Panthers), and had the need. And that's just going by need (NBC mentioning Cincy and Buff not passing on Newton, if Denver didn't). Who's to says Denver with the 2 pick wouldn't have chosen him as BPA? Any way you slice it: Newton, was never going to precipitously drop if the Panthers didn't pick him (as if he was some big reach by Hurney) at #1. He would have never made it past the top 2, certainly top 3-4 picks.

Now look at Mayock. He's speaking as if he knows what the Panthers are doing, and he doesn't know poo (prompting NBC's title-article, against budding, established "consensus")!

The irony is: The Panthers had the #1 pick, so they didn't  have to play keep away with the media (as they did) with information. So one can argue, the budding consensus came from other NFL teams, or the draft process (I.e. Newton shining in it), and not even the Panthers themselves. Mayock has absolutely no idea what he's talking about (strong feelings aside), and shows that hate against Newton that you been discussing? Yup Yup.

I never said that hate didn't exist with Newton. Sure it did. My contention was: Those guys didn't count/were all idiots (especially early in the draft process) since the Panthers and NFL were doing their own thing, and saw Newton completely differently.

Mayock, exhibits that vividly here (with his “I feel very strongly that Carolina would like to trade out of the No. 1 overall pick,” bullshit)! Yeah right, Mike!?  LOL

Enjoy the game Tiger!

Go Panthers!

My man, I truly believe your sincerity in your belief through all of these posts.  And my opinion is definitely no more valid than your own.

But, I assure you, you can't change my mind on this.  Because what you keep trying to support with a few examples DIRECTLY CONTRADICTS my memory then of the commonly held published beliefs on Cam Newton.

On this we will just have to agree to disagree.

Well, obviously you and I were in two different worlds.

So as you said. We'll just agree to disagree.

Enjoy the game/s. And go Panthers!
