Colin Cowherd: Cam Newton Has "All Time Talent"; Now A Fan; Makes Juicy Comparison

Many (if not most) people criticized Cam early on. Cowherd has seemed to have a love-hate thing going on with Cam since Newton has been in the league. I don't remember him ever completely writing Cam off as a lost cause. Cam, rightly or wrongly, had to show he could mature and lead the team. Hell, if I am going to skewer Cowherd, then I guess I would have to skewer many Huddlers as well who talked poo about Newton as well (and they should have really known better). I guess the difference is that some of us had a better understanding of the complete picture as to what was going on (as it pertained to having patience with Cam's transition to a pro, believing in what he would do with better protection, and absolutely knowing that his play would improve with better weapons. As for the last part, most of us probably would be lying if we could foresee him doing this well with Kelvin Benjamin going down, but Cam has showed everyone that his upside may be higher than anyone ever believed. His arm and legs give him the ability and credibility to establish himself as an all-time great at best, and certainly be in the conversation at worst.

By the way, anyone who is old enough to have seen and remember Terry Bradshaw play absolutely knows that he was a great QB, regardless. He was one that you wanted to take your team into battle because he refused to wilt under pressure and would always find out and grind out a way to win.

*Cam had a great Rookie year, and many supporters and believers. He won Rookie of the year, and made ProBowl.

So, I'm not sure what you meant, when you said he had many criticizers early on. Because during, after his Rookie season he received great praise. Let's be honest.

*It was during, and after his and the teams poor start in 2012 in his 2nd season, when select folks wanted to abandon him. Many did. Some didn't (particularly with an excellent 2nd half of the season; which many don't remember, cause they moved on).

*By his third, when his team won 12 games and made the playoff's, he received praise (2nd Pro bowl after his Rookie year), and especially in the playoff's where he threw great from pocket, reading defenses and scanning the field.

*During his 4th season, we all knew there was a rebuilding and many injuries on the team, injuries-including Cam, so they forgot about him again. National media don't care about 7 win playoff teams.

*We all know what this year turned out.

But let's be fair as Panther fans. Cam received great praise as a rookie. And even during 2nd and 4th season-when he did receive more criticism-he still had people like Gil Brandt, Warren Moon, Steve Beuerlein, Phil Simms (or just smart football people, etc.), who felt he was, or was going to be a great QB. We just have a tendency on The Huddle, or as Panther/Newton fans to find everyone that says something negative about Cam, and forget/don't see the ones who do have something good to say, or never changed.

Remember, last season (2014) on the CBS morning Football show, when the entire team (minus Boomer) shouted Esiason down, stating they would take Newton over Wilson any time of day of the week, despite Wilson's Superbowl appearances. That was all built on Cam's body of work, skill sets, and future. That never changed; regardless of many loud, disingenuous haters we tend to listen to often times.

There's a reason why Newton was drafted #1 overall. We seem to forget this.

Cowherd is all about giving a hot take on current events. He gives bold commentary that will generate relevant discussion and interest. He wants listeners feel like the topic is important, current, and a sign of things to come.

Two of the quarterbacks he could talk about have played each other 16 times in the past 15 years. Every story that could be written has been written. Manning is no longer capable of carrying a team in the playoffs. Brady is but he has aged and has been covered by the media so much the audience has fatigue.

That leaves Carson Palmer and Cam Newton. It's a no brainier. You talk Newton. Sell it as the biggest story of the year. It will change the NFL for years to come. Get in on this story now before its too late. You don't want to be on the wrong side of history. Make the audience believe they are listening to commentary on something significant and historic.

He's done this is whole career. It's how he has been so successful. Talk Lakers, Cowboys, Yankees, and whoever else is hot. Colin Cowherd would not take the time to form an opinion on Cam Newton unless something really good or really bad was happening. It's just part of his business.

Bingo!

On the opposite side of the ledger. Big Time Mike Francesca in NYC, loathes talking about anything Cam or Panthers for longer than he's required. And he's been this way since Newton came into the league, especially after he auspiciously planted the Andrew Luck Flagpole, Tent poles so deeply up his ass 1 year later.

This was so true, he's purposefully created that Same Ole aforementioned "tired" Peyton vs Brady rivalry (talking about how poor Manning's played, and should Oweiller replace him) this Friday. He did it to the point, where his own callers talk about it mostly, or the Yankees and Mets. Its' so obvious to me.

The few Panther calls he may get (the few times I've listened) he gets in and out so quickly. You should have heard his prediction of the game vs the Cardinals. It was classic Mike Hate with the Panthers (though he picked them to win). Such a tool. LOL

Mike's brilliant as his job, and had a great career (regardless of what you think about him or his opinions). But it's obvious when he steers a conversation in a certain direction, cause you know he doesn't want to talk about someone/thing else too long, particularly in glowing admiration.

So I'll at least give Cowherd credit for that vs a Mike Francesca (though I guess, others will respect Big Mike "sticking to his guns)? LOL
