Hornets vs Thunder game thread

This team is so bad. They have no identity. The team looks lost on defense and offense and I don't see it getting any better. If Kemba isn't playing hero ball the Hornets just stand around doing nothing. This team misses MKG's energy so much. He had no offensive game but he at least tried which is more than I can day for the current team most games.

Also during the gamecast they said Clifford misses Big Al's defense, he is either delusional or a fool and in no way deserves to be an NBA coach. Why did we extend this idiot instead of just firing him and hiring someone like Thibs?

Yeah it's on the coaching staff. PJ Hairston is trotted out there night after night and he might be the worst player in the NBA. Hell, the front office didn't even think enough about him to lock him into a $1 million contract next year this offseason. That's a pretty clear disconnect. Watching KD cross him up like he was a high school player was beyond pathetic (yeah I get that it was Kevin Durant). It's just a joke.

I drove down from Tulsa to catch the game. It was tough to watch. Kemba loses control a lot, Batum didn't get enough looks on offense, Kaminsky wasn't used until too late and the Thunder (who have two of the best players in the world) were just light years better. We're a long ways from having a team better than an Eastern Conference playoff contender. Some obvious changes need to happen, so we'll see over the next couple of years if they make any adjustments.

    • We needed the room, be prepared for a lot of deck clearing over the coming weeks. Trade deadline has passed but releases can happen for folks we decide won't be needed for the rebuild.
    • I don't see the Wallace speed ratings on the field. Not once have my eyes been drawn to him from any suddenness or explosiveness. Kind of like looking for a flash out of Bryce Young last year. I am aware that he is a rookie and his recognition and processing will be slower but if you don't close ground once you have finished recognizing and processing I worry about it. Now this, I think, disregards the new offensive staff's experience with WRs and their influence on who gets added. It isn't the old staff people and they are the offensive deciders, Morgan shouldn't be exerting his will over people whose focus has always been offensive football, and I don't think he will try to do that.  We'll see, but the two we added this year don't look like busts.
    • Not comparing the players just the use of analytics which has been and remains a key part of the structure of our approach in the draft since David Tepper became owner. All I'm saying is going forward we just don't know if this team will stop drafting Jonathan Mingo type prospects because the scouts are largely the same and the approach largely remains the same. Morgan has said he seeks players with a certain mentality (I refuse to type the phrase because this team has gotten taken to the woodshed too many times this season so it falls on deaf ears now) that's really the only key difference I can see as of right now. Next years draft will tell us what we need to know.
