I won't be shocked if NFL bans Cam's TD tradition

What "whispering a from analysts" have you seen?  Please show any proof of this....

I'm not going to spend hours looking back through Twitter and podcasts to figure out when I saw it. If you don't believe me because I didn't cite my work, that's fine. I'm not saying it's definitely going to happen, I'm just saying OP didn't make up the rumor.

Giving little kids football after TDs

Seriously????  Do you realize every time he does that he creates a fan for life.  Not only of the Carolina Panthers but also the NFL.   The cost of a football is far cheaper than advertising cost.

I remember as a young boy seeing Johnny Unitas at Training camp in the 60's.  He smiled for the camera while doing exercises and I was a Colt fan until they left Baltimore and a Die hard Unitas fan to this day.    Can you imagine how those kids will remember the day the Great Cam Newton handed them a football during their Championship season?

I see it happening for safety reasons (as an excuse) when every kid in the stadium starts flooding the stairs every time the home team are in the red zone.

Good point but since this is only a big issue at home games, I think they'd take extra steps to insure safety, rather than ban it.

As for the NFL getting involved, I don't think they'll touch it with a 10 ft. pole.

To be fair to the OP, I've heard lots of little whisperings and rumors on social media and from analysts for several weeks now that it would probably be banned in the offseason for safety reasons. I would hate to see this happen, but OP didn't make it up.

I suppose the lambeau leap is safer ? Don't believe anything you see on Facebook.

So what is worse?  A player handing a ball to a kid or a 200lb man leaping into the crowd for pats on the back?  The Packers have been doing that for years and no safety concerns whatsoever have been raise.

Cam would do it anyways.

No Fun League

Especially with Cam hated so much....U never know what they cooking

Who hates Cam (I may ask)?

A couple of insistent haters on the internet and their media brethren?

It doesn't stop him from earning the 2nd most in endorsements after Peyton (and maybe Tom Brady) with NFL players. $11 million a year, and counting-for sure!

It didn't stop him from making the finals of the Madden cover vote.

The Panthers games have been very highly rated this year.

Little kids, and their parents seemingly love Cam.

And all that "hate" brings in ratings, eyeballs, exposure and clicks obviously.

Cam's the new face of the league (or will be).

So don't let the internet world (and the huddle where we complain about everything) ever cloud your judgement.

As it's been said: NFL's gotten great exposure and PR from this. And the kids and their parent love it.

I hear ya.

But how is this less dangerous than the Lambo Leap?

What if a Packer player head butts a fan. Or god forbid, a fan falls out the stands?

But they still do it, right? LOL

Obviously, if someone ever got hurt doing either thing, they may reconsider doing it. But that hasn't happened yet (thank god)!

Its really not about danger. There is an element concerning danger that has been mentioned.

But from a purely business standpoint, I wouldn't  be surprised if the league banned it as well.

Why? Because we as a  nation have grown accustomed to me me me. One kid gets a ball , and it means umpteen number of other kids didn't. This is not a situation where a ball is kicked and not caught by the net in the stands. Its one where a star player selectively chooses one kid of another, or one fan over another. One fan happy in getting a ball is 30 more fans pissed they didn't get it.

I know and agree its stupid, but its the nature of business. Making one person happy at the expense of 30, 40, 100, 1000 others is a big no no. Of course it isn't an "expense" really , but fickle people that think they deserve a ball see it that way. If i paid big money for me and my family to be placed in the front row in prime spot to possibly get a ball, only to see it given away to some kid that ran down from the cheap seats....I might be pissed as well.

Nothing will happen provided there aren't any major incidents, but the first time a kid falls down the stairs running to get to the railing by the field and cracks their head open is when something would happen. I don't think the NFL would necessarily ban it, but you can bet that at minimum the Panthers would be lining the aisles of the lower level end zone sections with security personnel. Nothing in this country causes a reaction like the injury of a small child. That is probably something the Panthers should be doing now as a preventative measure to be honest.

That little girl's face said it all this past Sunday. Goodell would be the scummiest person in the World if that ever happened. I can see them banning Cam's 1st down celebrations before that, but again, the pettiness levels would be off the charts if even that was being discussed.

    • It's not good to leave any netminder having a bad night out there, not fair to them, not fair to the skaters still trying to win the game It's classless and shows a lack of respect, for them has a player and a human being, you aren't gaining anything, you aren't learning anything , except they just don't have it that night. I don't care if it's a multiple Vezina Winner, or a 3rd string back up, don't leave them out there to shame themselves and the rest of the team  What if Lavi left Cam in when he didn't have it, and Rod had to skate knowing he essentially has an open net at his end of the ice, would he enjoy that ?
    • If they draft Stewart at 8th, I will ask @Mr. Scot for a list of GMs and might as well ask for HC too.....
    • I can't for the life of me figure out what people are seeing in Stewart on tape. If he can't just simply run around or through the OL in front of him, he's cooked. I don't see any actual moves. If he doesn't win on sheet athleticism at the point of contact he's nullified. I don't know if I've ever seen him actually beat a block once engaged. Then, even if he just blasts right past or through the OL and has a clean path to the ball it's like he's blind. He can't find the ball. He's like a bottle rocket. Yeah, he takes off fast but he's just going to go fast in a general direction. There will be no course correction. I watched quite a bit on him just because of his perceived draft evaluation and because of the wild discrepancy between measurables and production. Watch him play and it all makes since. He's a god tier physical specimen who just happens to be playing football. I don't see a football player. People need to stop falling in love with the potential and start realizing why the potential isn't translating.
