a positive review with the URL saying "suicide squad is a huge mess" . that can't be good

lol exactly

As the writer explains, Rotten Tomatoes allows critics to only give a "fresh" (positive) or "rotten" (negative) rating, there is no in-between. He gives it a fresh due to the strong acting of the four main characters.

Deathstroke was coming regardless. I think Manu (actor who portrays him) got into a falling out with the producers of the Arrow due to "creative differences". Bennett is now on another show in New Zealand. Word on the street is that Manu hated the direction they were going with Deathstroke.

He's on Shannara Chronicles on MTV.   That is all true.   But they could get anyone to play behind the mask, last season they had a timejump where his kid was behind the mask now but it was only a short 5 minute scene.   He's off limits now.

Judging from the criticisms, Leto and Ayer did a fine job with The Joker. The issue apparently is that he didn't have enough screen time.

How? The film was probably badass until WB overreacted to the response from BvS. There were reports that WB wanted Ayer to do several reshoots. Well, it proved to be true. WB didn't think there was enough humor in the trailers either. There was a dramatic shift of tone from the Comic Con to the first official trailer.

DC will never shine unless WB actually commits to the properties like Disney did with Marvel.

Actually DC wanted more humor like the trailer that they hired the editing team who cut the trailer to make their own cut of the movie as a back up to ayers if they didn't like it.

Really gives off the impression they don't know what they are doing

I saw it opening night as well.

If we're grading on a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a 5.

For every thing the movie gets right, there are three things wrong. It's just a matter of what you value in a movie; does plot/structure matter or are visuals and explosions your cup of tea.

Will Smith is great. Margot Robbie is great. I'd love to see them in their own movies as Deadshot and Harley Quinn. I actually really like the first half of the movie as the characters are set up. After that, the film completely drags and I kept looking at my phone to see how much longer it would be meandering on from one explosion to another.

The story itself is mind-numbingly dumb. Like, turn your brain off or take 10 bong hits or eat some mushrooms, whatever you have to do so that all you care about is the visuals, because if you think about plot or story you might give yourself a migraine. For example, what in God's name does Harley Quinn bring to the table that the Navy SEALS who are escorting her don't? A baseball bat? A wooden mallet? A pistol? lol

It's fairly clear there was a good amount of studio meddling behind the scenes. It was fun to guess which scenes were added from the major reshoots that took place after BvS came out.

All in all, there were definitely some positives mixed with a lot of bloat. It was definitely an ambitious attempt from Ayers and company. I only wonder what could have been if Ayer had 100% say, with only minor input from the Snyder family and WB...as there are several shots in SS that are vintage Zach Snyder, as if Snyder was guest directing. bleh

Very interesting read here about the behind-the-scenes battle involved with Suicide Squad.

This part stood out in particular:

Quote

"[Ayer] wrote the script in like, six weeks, and they just went," he says, arguing that the whole process would have benefited if Ayer, 48, had been given more time to work.

That the script was written in only six weeks makes a lot of sense after seeing the film. The entire plot reads like something a fan or college student would come up with.

Wow only 5 minutes for Leto, who went in character the whole time?   That's disappointing.   Sounds like there was just too many characters in this.

Yeah about what Harley brings, etc, it's always been an issue.   Superman should be mostly untouchable for instance.   Batman at least brings some leadership and whatnot.

Marvel is doing guys like Daredevil and Punisher right though by keeping them "street" level against guys like Kingpin and whatnot.   They aren't "Avenger-level" fighters so it makes a lot of sense.

Going to see this and the new Star Trek tomorrow. I have mid to low expectations for both and WANT both to be good. Will let you guys know on Monday what I think.

I'm guessing you will be pleased with Star trek and disappointed with SQ. I know I was.

    • His o loaded with swift, dj, Keenan and Rome was inconsistent at best. The d was bad. And the game management was atrocious and lost them games.  He was terrible and made the team worse. I wish they kept him
    • That is my point.  I think teams make a huge mistake when they pay their decent to average QBs top QB money because they feel that they have to match the market or lose their investment--There is no way, for example, that Tua or Prescott or Murray should all be making more than Mahomes--I mean, Dak makes $15m per season more than Mahomes. People say, "Well, when its his turn...." But that is not how it should be--so my point was that Bryce can be doing mediocre to good enough in 2 years, but the way it is going, you have to pay him at the starting QB rate--currently $60m.  So even if you think he will continue to improve, at $60 m, he would eliminate any chance for a ring---so my view is, if he is not elite, you cut him.  So you draft QBs now and see what you can make of them.
    • With two 4ths and three 5ths I’m hoping we can kill it on adding depth. Take a gamble with the two 7ths.  First 3 picks id love to address the defense. I expect Tuttle, Robinson, and Jewell to all be on the 2025 roster but not after that. Be a good time to add depth and let them develop a year.
