I think this shows exactly why we were as badly rated in DVOA as we have been. We've gotten a few large leads this season and our coaching staff loves to play conservative football in those situations. This game was the epitome of that philosophy. I hate watching those large leads fall away but so far this season I can't complain with the results.

Is there a metric for protecting a lead? Someone make one up. Combine that with points scored and the Panthers will be #1.

There is a point in a game where it is better to protect the lead than it is to pile up points and increase the risk for a team.

I've really come to hate DVOA.  We beat them twice in one year and are ranked below them.  It sounds more like some hack's bad power rankings to me.

By the way, all 3 top ranked DVOA teams have been eliminated from the playoffs.  Some predictive power!

Does DVOA actually stand for anything? Even the site that created it didn't say what the fug it stood for in the "explaining DVOA" article. I submit that it's like Klingon insider nerd-speak.
