I Miss Shaq Thompson

finnegan was out of position and slow yesterday, his experience is nice, but he can have all the experience in the world and still not be physically capable in the slot against Fitz. we need speed and size in that position, i think shaq has those qualities and i don't really see how it could be any worse. same thing with tre boston. sometimes we just need a guy who is fast enough to be in the position to make a play. fitz does a lot of important blocking for their offense as well, i'd rather see shaq break through him than finnegan get manhandled by him.

Well when he was drafted there were talks of how good he would be in the big nickel package  And if he were really going to be used in that package then he'd be covering slot receivers as well as tight ends.

Yep, I remember that talk.

I also remember that Rivera said we wouldn't be conservative in the 2nd half yesterday.

It was Mcclain who looked slow, not Finnegan. Finnegan is still quite fast, he was just out of position most of the time and that can make anyone look slow as hell. Too much ground to cover when you're out of position out there. I watched Mcclain and he was constantly getting burnt like cinnamon toast crunch on the outside.

The Cardinals employ a lot of passes to RBs in the flats and crossing routes to receivers in order to set up their deep passing game which relies on creating space by having a safety focused on the short routes.

The weakness to the Cardinals offense is when they face quick/fast LBs who can move sideline to to sideline and suffocate the underneath coverage. Guess what the Panthers LBs do very well in the passing game?

Shaq Thompson will see a lot of time against the Cardinals, Patriots, or Broncos.

None of those teams employ mobile QBs that force the LBs to place primary responsibility of containing a rushing QB from getting up field. This means Kurt Coleman and Harper play most of the game in deep coverage and do not need to fill the underneath coverage when the QB scrambles. This is how Coleman has gotten his interceptions.

All of these teams rely on crossing routes to larger WRs/TEs to out physical/block out smaller DBs. None of these teams employ physical running games up the middle.

I expect a lot of sideline to sideline coverage by the LBs and Kurt Coleman playing deep center field.

The DTs pass rush and LBs sideline to sideline pass coverage are the keys to the playoffs. This will be about deep safeties, LBs underneath, and DT pressuring the QB to get turnovers on defense. It will be about misdirection to open up space in the running and passing game with Cam as the focus for the offense.

Advantage Panthers.

I think most of us honestly knew he was the replacement for Davis....he may very well step right in when Davis retires and we will barely miss a beat...it's hard to crack the lineup when we have one of the best 4-3 true OLB of all time and on his way to being the best MLB of all time....GMan is very smart and very good at shaping a roster...not just for the current day but for the future...

Shaq=Davis replacement not some super secret weapon...smart teams do this....keep a strength a strength.

When was the last time we had a first round pick who didn't start? Its been a while

McClain and Finnegan were getting abused yesterday

When's the last time we had a competent GM who drafts truly BPA?

When's the last time we or anyone went back to back DTs in the draft in rounds 1/2?
