Ron vs Arians on "prevent mode"

I heard a couple interesting discussions on playing prevent defense, maybe shows us the difference between Ron and Bruce Arians.

On the Packers last drive, Cardinals DC wanted to play prevent defense, rush 3 and drop 8 to keep Rodgers from throwing a Hail Mary. Bruce over-ruled him and told him to rush the passer, keep the pedal down.

Panthers go into prevent defense after taking a 31 point lead, nearly blow the game. In Ron's presser he says he was disappointed that they played prevent... so why didn't Ron at some point tell Sean to change it up. Pretty sure he has final say as to what happens on the field .

What do you guys think, was Ron ok with the defense being called and then kind of throw Sean under the bus in his presser?

We didn't play prevent defense the whole 2nd half.  Ron said he was disappointed we went into "protect" mode or something like that.

I do think Ron had a problem, particularly with the defensive play calls in the second half.  He said we need to put players in a position to make a play and we didn't.  I take that to mean he didn't like the play calls.  I'm sure he'll address what he meant to McDermott and Shula this week.

That's what they make Bose headsets for....get on the headset Ron and tell SM to tighten up the coverage. Stating the obvious after the fact is fruitless. Think they would have learned after the NY and Indy game. If they blow the Arz game because of the same crap, it would be terrible.

Yea...but Arians decision to blitz the QB and play 3 back was the reason the Janis was able to come up with the catch.  So, his decision failed.

This. And Arians's aggressiveness on their last offensive drive almost costed them the game. If they run the ball 3 times instead of throwing a fade to Fitz, the Packers wouldve lost almost a minute on their last drive and orobably wouldnt have even made it to midfield. Everyone loves the aggressive coach until it doesnt work and gives the other team life

Maybe McDermott should have spent more time on preparing the gameplay instead of taking job interviews.

This idea works better in your head if you dont know what your were watching on TV, Panthers Didnt go prevent till late in the 4th when a quick score would have actually killed us, at which point it worked due to draining the clock.  Panthers Defense just played a bad game, from both a players and playcalling standpoint in the second half. that great play by keek to punch the ball away, caused because Finnagan broke coverage and was out of position, hence why Keek was mad after the play, if he had not saw what happened and Jump a route that should have already been covered by Fin then that's a big completion by the Seahawks instead of a great play by keek.

McClain and Fin were out of position several times yesterday.

Err, just to point out something here.

The Cardinals DC was correct. Rodgers basically completed two Hail Mary's on that drive because the Cards blitzed. There is a time to play prevent- that was it.

There is a time not to play prevent- the 3rd quarter is that time. There is a happy medium between Arians' position and Rivera's.
