My band was playing a tiny bar called stool pigeons in uptown Charlotte. We were supposed to start at 9 or 9:30 but of course management comes up and says "we will have to wait until after the panther/Rams game". Of course at the time the musician and performer in me was pissed because I didn't really keep up with football. I saw hundreds of people packed into a tiny room like sardines. Thinking, man I want to rock this joint. Well, me and the band retreat to the back office where the tv is playing the game. I watched and the longer I watched the faster my heart started beating. Every missed field goal that could have ended it. Every play in overtime. I quickly became a nervous wreck over a team and a sport I didn't even know much about. Then the play. X-clown. I saw the ball hit this dude wearing 89 in stride and cut up field to the end zone arms spread wide in the paint. I jumped to my feet and went nuts. Everyone who knew me was like "wtf dude. do you even watch football?"

I simply replied, "that was the single most exciting thing I have ever witnessed on television." From that moment I was hooked. I became a fan and will remain one til the end.

I got hooked watching the Immaculate Reception. I know how you feel.

(granted, I was five at the time)

I had just moved into my new apartment in Boone, a 20 year old transfer from ECU.  I was still glowing from my first Playoff game in which I felt the concrete sway under my feet.  Nervous as hell because the Rams hadnt lost at home in 14 games.  By the end of regulation I was just exhausted.  Overtime killed my nerves and then BOOM Smitty to the house.

Let it be known that it snowed a foot the day I moved in.  As Smitty crossed the goal line I was running shirtless waving it above my head "spinning it like a helicopter" out the door, no shoes.  Ran into the parking lot and made a good half lap before I realized it was winter in boone and my moobs were freezing.

I made the return trip only to slip and barrel roll through a fresh snowbank.

As happy as I've ever been.

Smitty and xclown were the reasons I became a fan. Never ever felt that much joy and emotion only thing that rivals it was the Red Sox coming back three games down to win it against the yanks to go to the series. I'm probably a bigger baseball fan than football if that is even possible.

got to hear jake speak about that super bowl run the following year at a motivational speaking event and held on to every word he said and was hooked on the team.

I was like 12 or 13 when the team was announced.  I'm sure I was told Charlotte was getting a team, but I must of been too busy getting into trouble to understand what was going on.  For my birthday after the team was announced my folks got me a Carolina Panthers sweatshirt and T-shirt.  I thought it was cool, but I must of had a look of bewilderment on my face.  My Dad said, "That's new football team in Charlotte."  Up until the Panthers came into existence, I watched and rooted for the Bengals and Browns because my Dad is from Ohio and that's who we watched.  When I got that sweatshirt and the news, I immediately fell in love and finally had MY team to pull for.  Still have the sweatshirt to remember that day.

Always cool to hear how people became fans.

My fam originally had PSLs in 124 near the tunnel and in one of the first home games in 96, I bought one of those grey and blue Panthers' kid-sized footballs.  Mark Carrier signed it and that's when I really became a fan.  He was one of the first players I was really a fan of on the team.  Hard to remember most of Clemson for me outside of the real panther they played that magic trick with.  The Cowboy's playoff game that 96/97 season made me a fan for life.  I was like 9 at the time.
