Fix it and it's clear sailing. Don't fix it and it'll dog you for your entire married life.

I disagree, but to each his own.

Personally, I would have an honest discussion with the wife about it.  Your Mom doesn't think much of me, and that's fine, but from now on when you want to see her, I'm flying you up to Malverne (or whatever).

Situation is fuged because she is in bad health and wife wants to spend as much time as possible with her mother.  They both live in NY so at least they don't come by too often.

Yea I have tried all those things and with most people it works. Wife is happy right now but it's a new problem every hour. I sent them to Charleston for two day so I get some peace and quiet.  The wife was happy about that so hopefully I can devise a new game plan by then.

Now I get why she's miserable, and enjoys making you that way....

I made my MIL so uncomfortable to come over to our house that we only have to deal with her in doses.  I don't have to deal with her, I don't have to have her get her batshitcraziness on my kids...win, win.

Of course, my wife is meh towards her mom to begin with, so its easier to start off with, though.

As soon as I saw the NY thing I thought the exact same thing. It  always amazed me when I lived in Charlotte how many from NY/NJ move to the Carolinas only to tell me how much better things were in NY. I would always tell them to go back if it's so great. New Yorkers have always been a special kind of miserable and they love to share it with everyone. Personally, I would go to my doctor and explain the situation, get a 2 week dose of valium, and zone out the crazy.

You know it.

Wife and I purchased a property about 10 years ago and held onto it, waiting to see what the real estate market was going to do. We started building our retirement home on the lot when, no sooner had the foundation been laid, the in-laws decided they were retiring and moving down from NJ, right across the river from NYC. So we sold them the house we had just started to build, recognizing immediately there was no way we could retire there and have any peace in our lives.

Anyway, they've been down here for 6 years now and my mom-in-law still wears a "Jersey Girl" ballcap, has a NY Yankees sticker on her car and brags about everything NY and NJ. I got fed up with it and finally told her I-95 runs north just like it runs south and you're more than welcome to move back up there if it's so fugging great. And, by the way, I offered them half of what they paid me for the house.

I'm from California and I moved to NC in 1992. I moved here for a reason and I fail to understand why someone would make the choice to move here then have the 'nads to bitch about it. Sure, there are things about CA I like and miss, but obviously not enough to move back. "You decided to move here, now just stfu and make the best of it."

    • Everyone wants to know what happened to Hunter Renfrow. He went from the Pro Bowl in 2021 to an afterthought in 2022 and 2023 to out of the league in 2024.  Renfrow ow is attempting a comeback with the Panthers. “It’s just trying to get back, trying to get healthy, trying to do something I love,” Renfrow told Darin Gantt of the team website when asked about a year out of the game. “I enjoyed other parts of life. We had our second daughter, so enjoying that and just wanting to make sure if I’m going to come back and give my time and attention to something that I was going to be all in on it.” Renfrow, 29, revealed that he has dealt with a diagnosis of ulcerative colitis, which left him with weight loss, fatigue and high fever. It’s a reason he did not play last season. Instead, Renfrow spent a year consulting with doctors and getting the condition under control. “It kicked my butt pretty good,” Renfrow said. “Last year, I fluctuated in weight. I went down to 150 pounds. I had like seven straight days of 103-degree fevers. It’s tough to play when you’re not feeling great.” He now weighs 187 with a goal of a playing weight of 185. “It’s a weird feeling. It makes you grateful for the times that you do feel good,” Renfrow said. “It makes you grateful for the opportunities that you’ve had, and when you feel like you’ve been blessed with some skill to go out there and perform, it makes you not want to waste the opportunity that you have. And that was one of the reasons why I wanted to come back and play.” In five seasons, Renfrow has 269 receptions for 2,884 yards and 17 touchdowns. https://www.nbcsports.com/nfl/profootballtalk/rumor-mill/news/hunter-renfrow-a-health-challenge-led-to-time-away-from-football
    • I am feeling optimistic for sure. But at this point in time in Panthers fandom talk is cheap and seeing is believing.
