Bruce Irvin

Bruce Irvin has always been an effective player playing against us because his speed off the edge is for real. Their ends definitely presents a challenge this week to our tackles, and I'm hoping we can get them blocked well this Sunday. Vic Beasley is an absolute force coming off the edge and will definitely be a better player long term compared to Bruce Irvin. Also I have been hearing talk that this is Bruce last season with the Seahawks and he might be going to Atlanta next season to play under Dan Quinn. I think the best way to slow that speed rush down is to get our backs and TE to chip on there way out the backfield or off the line of scrimmage. Outside of that, let's get the defense on their heels with read options, screen plays, and sweeps.

Not being too predictable. An even balance of run pass. Keeping down and distance short. Read option (gulp) or draws to use his speed against him. One player, whom we have played against repeatedly in the past, is easy to game plan for especially if you have two weeks to do it.

In Remmers defence against Irvin he actually wasn't responsible for either sack.

Sack #1 came in the 1st quarter when Irvin made very quick work of Oher and got to Cam immediately.

Sack #2 was in the 4th on the GW drive and the Seahawks ran a stunt confusing Oher and Norwell. Irvin blew by Norwell.

You guys are over thinking this one.  You know how we got that one play from the movie The Little Giants?  Well, all they need to do is steal another play from the movie Remember the Titans.  Cam will channel Sunshine and tell Remmers to let him through...then JUDU FLIP!!  Cam will take of it.  I mean, we ask Cam to take care of most things anyway.

Just a couple points. SEA doesn't blitz that much, I'm not a stat guy but they would love to go an entire game without having to blitz. i would guess they are somewhere in the bottom 3rd of the league for blitzes. It is just that they have a good D-line and when they blitz it is effective.

Bruce Irvin is OLB, who is pretty fast and has a good bull rush. He is pretty good in coverage and has a lot of aggression when he gets the opportunity to pursue the QB. He only has like 20 sacks in his entire career, just 6 of them are against Carolina. Not sure why.

Remmers is a UDFA who plays well against good competition, but struggles against elite players. His playing well and costing us so little has given us the ability to put that money in other places. Saying he sucks or is 'garbage' is lazy hyperbole. He's not all pro or elite, but he's done a good job for us and I appreciate the role he's played. I look forward to the day when we can have two all pro bookend tackles, and I have faith that Gettleman can do it, but until then, I'm glad he was able to find good role players who give it their all.
