Clowney

Again, never been a huge fan, but he's still only 22.  Most 22 year olds and certainly most players have massive egos.  Most human beings do mature at least somewhat.

Those saying nothing obviously can't be serious when we gave up a 6th for one half of a year of a way past his prime DE.

Clowney, already, has fallen WAY short of his best DE ever #1 overall hype but FAR outplayed your run of the mill 6th rounder.

The question is a legitimate one, and not easy for a reason.

Yes but some egos are larger than others and even amongst those in a profession littered with "me first" and "look at me personalities" he still stands out. He may not be the worst but hes far from desirable. The guy just doesn't have a ton of room for improvement, would be a disruption to most locker rooms, and lazy is lazy no matter how you cut it. We had one of the best defensive ends of all time in Peppers and he was a lazy sack of crap half the time. I will be the first to admit that once upon a time Pep was my favorite player EVER, but now i find it tough to even see him on a field. Not because hes no longer a panther but because of the vast waste of talent (my main issue) and the horrendous way he left the franchise that helped make him who he was. The man has no respect for himself or the game. I'm sorry but I don't want another one of those on this team. I'll take a 4-6th rounder who gives it all on every play and gets the same numbers as the former #1 overall who half asses it. What teams need in crunch time and when the chips are down is HEART, that's what wins championships, that's what gets the extra stop or extra yardage when you need it the most. A guy like Josh Norman may be narcissistic as hell but he gives everything he has got and leaves his guts on that field. Give me that guy every day of the week. Hard work beats lazy talent all day long.

Their board doesn't bat an eye when the possibility of shipping him for a 3rd comes up.  For the last pick in the 3rd round?  Risky?  Sure.  But holy crap you can't say it's not intriguing if being home really is where he belongs and can thrive.

This ain't madden...did you not hear what Gettleman said this week about being methodical, can't rush and make a move based on need to and he hasn't flashed any potential so fug him. Everything ain't a fairy tale

Texans won't do it and he's not worth it anyway. All this hype surrounding him, but people fail to realize he's been a massive disappointment in college and now the pro's. When has a player that produced so little the year prior to entering the draft been drafted that high, he's been living off reputation for years.

From their message board, linked earlier in this thread.....brutal lmao

"He's always seemed content not to play with minor injuries before, why would today be any different. Mercilus had another great game, it would have been a mistake to take snaps away from him anyway."

Funny thread..... especially after I sat and watched about a 10 minute piece on Clowney yesterday... on ESPN. He's not going anywhere, he's recovering from his injury and the team has been coaching him harder than he's ever been coached, blah, blah, blah. The Texans are expecting big progress next year.

Again, EVERYONE (not named Cam or Luke) has a price.  They certainly do regarding this guy after what he's done so far.  Is it too rich for us considering his risks?  Probably.  But what is it?  And what would we be willing to give up?  And certainly it's not nothing.

Funny thing is I actually agree with you.

But Clowney's talent is so special and we are the only team that can say is his hometown team, that, just maybe...?

Was a big fan of Clowney when he played for the GC but even then he took many plays off / seemed to not want to play at times....etc.  He is extremely talented but a very underrated thing in the NFL is heart.  Steve Smith is a prime example of that and how far it can take you.  You can have all the talent in the world but if you do not care about the game / job you are doing.....you are usually never going to be better than average.  Maybe he will pull it together...still young but who knows.  I was one of the few who would say that he was not going to make it in the NFL....most people would think I was insane.  So far I have been right.  Is he worth the risk?.......not for what the Texans would want for him.

Other than some "all universe" hit, what exactly has Clowney shown

Exactly this. He's been outperformed in every facet of football by Mack. He's always hurt. He's on a line that has JJ Watt and Wilfork, and he still can't get free to the QB.

Hell, even Funchess said that the video made the hit look way harder than it actually was (and he was right there beside of it when it happened).

John McClain ✔ @McClain_on_NFL Clowney has known since after practice Wednesday he wasn't playing. Left stadium to take tickets to family. 3:04 PM - 9 Jan 2016

EDIT: Do not believe everything ESPN tells you...

Personally I think this is BS. Why would you go home to take tickets to your family. They can come to the stadium and Clowney could have given the tickets to them.
