So, years later, the media is finally trying to make that bleacher report Jim Folsom guy reap what he sowed

There are a fair number of Carolina Panthers fans out there who have fantasized for years about seeing Jim Folsom in his tighty-whities.

That’s because, back in 2011 – shortly after the team bet the farm on Cam Newton by making him the NFL’s No. 1 draft pick – Folsom tossed this very-live grenade onto the very-unforgiving Internet:

Jim Folsom’s profile photo on Twitter.

“Cam Newton is a sure-fire bust,” he wrote in an opinion piece for the Bleacher Report website titled “Why Carolina Panthers’ New QB Is the Worst NFL Draft Pick Ever.”

“I am so certain of this,” Folsom continued, “that if he is the Panthers’ starting quarterback in 2016, I will buy a Cam Newton jersey and stand in the stadium parking lot in my underwear when the Panthers come to Tampa Bay and hold a sign proclaiming that Auburn rules over Florida and Carolina rules over Tampa Bay.”

Oh, Panthers fans remember this article alright. And it’s the underwear part they’ve stayed stuck on.

Well, guess what? Despite the fact that, yes, Newton is not only the Panthers’ starting quarterback but also the odds-on favorite to win his first MVP, Folsom has a message for those who have demanded he make good on his promise: Kiss my you-know-what.

“To tell you the truth, I was right (about Newton) until he had the truck accident,” Folsom says, referring to the star’s scary December 2014 crash in uptown Charlotte. “When he was 3-7-1 and throwing picks like crazy and taking sacks like that Philadelphia game last year, there’s a lot of teams that would have benched him right there. Then the guy ... got a wake-up call and he had the good sense to realize, ‘This is a pretty good deal I got, and I don’t want to blow it.’ And he’s changed since then. Great. That’s fantastic. ... But five years ago, I had no idea the guy was gonna flip his truck and have an epiphany and go from mediocre-to-bad quarterback to Superman in one day.”

The only way he’ll make good on his promise, he says, is if Bleacher Report or Panthers’ fans pay for his travel from Florida to North Carolina. “All it takes is a couple bucks and a postage stamp. Do your thing. But not one of them has done a thing. So don’t give me this crap about ‘You don’t have the guts to show up.’ I got the guts to show up. You guys don’t have the guts to make me show up.”

A Change.Org petition titled “I would like to see Bleacher Report hold Jim Folsom accountable” has collected 450 signatures.

Even N.C. Governor Pat McCrory used Folsom and his infamous column as a punchline – while taking a dig at his own critics – on Twitter in November: “Remember articles like this when the media starts offering their opinion on things.”

This douche bag is just begging for someone to foot the bill so he can come watch the "Greatest show on TURF 2.0" in person.

*** you, stay in Tampa and enjoy the MRSA soaked sorry ass excuse for a football team.

If Jamies Winston isn't indited for rape before 2020 I'll show up in Tampa bay (with my own money) wearing a black dress and a half drank appletini and get those charges pressed myself.

With a response like this.

“To tell you the truth, I was right (about Newton) until he had the truck accident,”

You are never going to get that dipwad to accept responsibility for his remarks. Face it. He is the classic troll. I was right so nah nah nah to you.

All the records Cam has accumulated over the years mean absolutely squat to trolls like this. We haven't won anything. Well, other than those 3 consecutive Divisional Champs. So records mean diddly.

Until Cam/Panthers win a SuperB owl. Cam will always be viewed as just another QB by those who chose to hate him. And even when we do WIN the big one. There will still be folks who will dismiss Cam's contributions.

If you hate Cam. It is because you want to. Cam has never done one damm thing to deserve the hate he gets.

end rant.

Anyone who claims that Newton threw "picks left and right" are complete and utter morons.

Even in Newton's rookie season when he threw 17 he was only average in Ints.
Since then Newton has thrown 12, 13, 12, 10.

But then again those that hate on Newton don't exact operate in the world of factual information.

EDIT: And what a surprise, the idiot is racist...

Yeah, Cam had an epiphany after his truck accident.  Let's just disregard he set QB records his rookie year, and spearheaded a top five offense that same year.  Folsom would have been better off in hiding because I don't care about what he said about Cam when we drafted him.  Yet now he deserves to be held for what he said.

He also won the Rookie of the Year award.

Accolades don't mean squat to the Cam haterz. There will always be some stat they can use to say he has done nada yet. Hellz, even if we win the SuperB owl, these folks will find a way to dismiss Cam's contributions.

If you hate Cam. There is nothing, never will be anything, Cam can do to change your mind.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
