Everything is reasonable except your tolbert analysis. You do realize he was being paid 2.5 mil a year during his last 4 years. The guy is way past his prime and you want to lock him into a 3 yr deal giving him 2.5-3mil is laughable. Tolbert will get a max of 2 yrs probably at 1mil a yr and thats IF the team wants him back.

After the poster called me out on Nortman, I think he may be right. He is getting expensive and a middle of the road punter in 2015. In 14 PFF had him ranked in top 5 in open field punts, and his hang time is impressive, but DG is always going to look to build through the draft which means older players are going to get pushed out. 

 

the way i am approaching this is that these guys will be resigned because we will have 90 roster spots to fill. these guys won't be guaranteed roster spots once we whittle it down to the 53 for 2016, but they will be competing with draft picks and FAs for the final spots. we still will have to resign these guys but their contracts won't contain the same guarantees that our big time players will have and they will be easy to cut if we need to.

Top 10 contacts are between $2.75m and $3.75m a year. Usually around $2-8m guaranteed. Free Fua made a good point about Nortman being middle of the road this last year. His advanced metrics from 2014 were in top 10 and top 6 in 2013, and he is young. Unfortunately i cant find his PFF grade for 2015. I do have a problem with Net average because punters are asked to do so many things in the NFL that are not necessarily "kick it long". I don't have a great grasp on evaluating punters in the NFL, but from my understanding Nortman has been very solid for the past few years. Here is another reason i think he is resigned. It is very difficult to draft and evaluate punting prospects because the rules in coverage teams and what punters are asked to do is so drastically different in college than the pros. I think this is an awesome read if you are into player evaluation and the different between the pro and college game.

Harper played very well this season, but Coleman is better, younger, and $3 mil cheaper.

If Tillman retires after this year, which seems likely, I'd love it if he could stay on as maybe assistant defensive backs/secondary coach and start his climb up the coaching ladder with us. Might be helpful especially if Wilkes gets a promotion.

I too don't have a great grasp on how to evaluate punters beyond a few stats, but one thing that was notable.  Nortmann was nominated 3 times by the panthers to be NFC player of the week:  Wk 2 (Houston),  Wk 7 (Philly) and Wk 15 (Giants),  So, that speaks to his value to the team.

I'll just have to disagree. If the Cowboys, who will sign just about anyone (and did/have), don't want him at any cost, I can't imagine a scenario - even league minimum - where we'd bring him back.

Man thats a underwhelming amount of talent we are losing. I think you could Prob put CJ on that list. No way in hell we let him stay on that ridiculous contract with his performance. That will give us about 50 mill to spend on guys that can help.
