Gettleman key to Caughlins leaving?

What if it's not Gettlemagic and is actually Ron, the coaches, Cam, Luke and TD that elevate the play of everyone?

Ginn was bad before 2013 then broke out with Carolina then was bad in 2014 then came back to Carolina and has been good again. Mitchell was below average before coming to Carolina, broke out and now he's below average again. Kurt was a below average journeyman before coming here and now he's a star.

The players and coaches deserve a lot more credit for the success and integration of the players that Gettleman brings in than they are getting. The evidence indicates that the core of the team elevates the level of play of the surrounding pieces more so than that Gettleman is just finding all these amazing players that no one else knows what to do with.

Well, even if he isn't the exact cause of Coughlin leaving.... he sure had a lot to do with Lovie exiting Tampa!

You could make a pretty good argument that the loss of Gettleman did indeed have negative consequences on their organization just based on the direction the two teams have gone since his hire.

There's likely more to it than just that, but I'd agree it had some kind of effect.

They haven't been to the playoffs since their last superbowl in 2011. Gettleman left there in 2013. He was there for their 2012 season when they started sucking. It's a stretch to say his departure directly resulted in this.

I like Dave but we also have to give credit to Ron and his guys for the kind of coaching they give the guys.

yea, I'd be prepared to really go out on a limb and agree there's likely more to it than that.

But why should Tampa be different from Atlanta last year or New Orleans contemplating replacing a Super Bowl winning coach?

Everyone in the NFCS is looking up (literally and figuratively) to the Panthers!

The "collaborative effort" approach that Gettleman uses here came from the Giants, so I don't think you can strictly define him by his role there.  He was one of the men with input on the overall effort, and as such I do think his presence is missed.

Truthfully though, the Giants have always been an up and down team under Coughlin/Reese.

When they were great, they were Super Bowl contenders, but there were seasons of mediocrity in-between.  Up till now, there weren't as many of those though, and this last down period stretching out a bit probably helped do Coughlin in.  If it keeps going, it might spell doom for Reese as well.

Related Note: I speculated a while back on whether Coughlin might want a front office type role.  He's actually pretty good as a talent evaluator (his time with the Jags backs that up) and he's got a good relationship with Gettleman.

If he doesn't get another coaching job, who knows?

Watching inside the nfl they are talking about Tom Coughlins leaving and apparently the owner said that it wasn't Caughlins fault that they had a bad year and blames it on the GM Reece for not having enough talent on the defensive side of the ball. I attribute this to having their best talent evaluator orchestrating a 15 and one season for the Carolina Panthers and future Super Bowl Champs. We single  handedly destroyed the New York Giants organization by taking their best personel guy.

Thoughts?

also big shout out to the big Cat for getting help from Ernie Accorsi to bring in that sweet nipple shorts wearing gettlemagic

I'm thinking this had a little to do with the "missing" talent on defense. Of course, you can add a 4th of July issue to it
