Gettleman key to Caughlins leaving?

Watching inside the nfl they are talking about Tom Coughlins leaving and apparently the owner said that it wasn't Caughlins fault that they had a bad year and blames it on the GM Reece for not having enough talent on the defensive side of the ball. I attribute this to having their best talent evaluator orchestrating a 15 and one season for the Carolina Panthers and future Super Bowl Champs. We single  handedly destroyed the New York Giants organization by taking their best personel guy.

Thoughts?

also big shout out to the big Cat for getting help from Ernie Accorsi to bring in that sweet nipple shorts wearing gettlemagic

I wouldn't go that far. They had a blue goose pass rusher blow his hand off. They drafted a good, young safety that Gettleman loved too and he has been coming along slowly. They have been unable or unwilling to draft young talent at linebacker. They lost their Left Tackle early in the season and had to start a rookie all year.

I think also something can be said of Ron Rivera and McDermott making the most of their schemes. Mike Mitchell has not been the same in Pittsburgh and Kurt Coleman would not be the same in New York. The Giants have issues all over the place including the draft. Gettleman was in a reduced role in the pro department when we hired him. They have issues above and beyond the loss of Gettleman.

As far as I know, Gettleman was basically responsible for "scouting" free agents. Didn't have anything to do with the draft (where the Giants have been weak lately).   Don't think there's much correlation here.

He gave the GM input on everything including the draft but was mainly responsible for FA scouting.

This I think is the most appropriate answer.  One of the reasons Gettleman didn't fire Rivera was because he could see the promise as a coach, but also he had a great staff.  With all of those things together, we have created a great culture, and our schemes have the ability to sub in talented players who didn't fit else where.

Gettleman has really done a great job in finding the bargin free agents, and our coaches have helped give them the places where they can succeed.

Yeah I know he wasn't over all of it but he was obviously well respected and his opinion I'm sure carried a lot of weight especially as to how good of a talent evaluator he was. Just seems odd their talent level dropped off when there has been enough time now to notice him missing
