Lovie Smith... OUT?!?!

I gotta say dumb move by the Bucs.  Ron Rivera's second year with the Panthers, 7-9 with a rookie #1 draft pick at QB.  Lovie Smith's second year with the Bucs,  6-10 with a rookie #1 draft pick at QB.  I guess they really aren't emulating our formula after all.

nah, Shula has history there....can't follow Lovie with a former Tampa guy that was disliked.  Fully expect Tampa to go young and fresh.

McD IMO is someone they could want.  Division play could influence it.  I'd put a penny on McD getting a call.  They like defensive guys

Not sure McD would go to a division rival.  Somehow that seems a bit disloyal to Ron & the Panthers.  I'd really hate to have to play against a McD defense twice a year.

Is there precedent for coordinator from one team becoming head coach at a division rival?

This was the Perfect situation for the panthers.  Lovie and the Bucs were building something good, Payton and the toxic Saints are staying together for another dumpster ride, and Kyle Shanahan and the Falcons keep their disfunction together.  As for the Bucs, the players were clearly in Lovie's corner.  If you get a chance, go listen to the Winston's post-season press conference, he was saying how his coaches wanted it more than a lot of the players and talked about trying to get it fixed in the offseason...oops.  There will be a regression for that organization now, guaranteed.

What coach in their right mind would want to go there.  Nothing but lower tier guys will sign up for this, or Chip Kelly.

None of the guys out their now could have done a better job with the mess in Tampa and a wild card rookie QB, than Lovie did.

Incredibly stupid move on their part.

Lovie can now land a decent job with a better organization.

Philly?

The Bucs actually may be trying to follow Carolinas lead in some aspects. Miami has interest in the Bucs OC as HC. By promoting him to HC (before he jumps ship),  they keep the continuity with Winston while finding an OC that will run the same system.  The imput that the HC would have with the new OC would keep Winston from starting over.
