Lovie Smith... OUT?!?!

Fug him! I lost all respect for him last season when he pulled his starters in the final game to ensure a #1 pick.

The suddenness of it does make you wonder if the Bucs have someone specific in mind as a replacement. I think that Bucs are on the upswing as a team (no where to go but up).

Just to add to what Mr.  Scot said about Rivera being "let go" by Lovie because he wasn't Lovie's man, a lot of the reason for that was differing defensive philosophies.  Yes, they are both 43 guys, but Lovie was bend don't break Tampa 2 soft cover zone guy while Rivera came from the Jimmy Johnson school of thought in Philly that was a very aggressive blitz and attack heavy mindset. Despite the obvious success Rivera's D had, it wasn't being run the he way Lovie wanted. When Rivera left his guy ran the Tampa 2 that Lovie prefers which is attack lot of the he he he reason that, while still respectable, the Chicago D was never as dominant as it was when Rivera was there.

And that is also why you won't be seeing Lovie come here attacks a DC and why, if he did, wouldn't be a good thing. The two defensive mindsets aren't a match and we would likely see the defense take a step backward.

We are not hiring Lovie as a DC peoole stop it. He and Rivera run by two TOTALLY different defensive schemes, that's why things didn't work out between them in Chiacago.

Ohhhh just my 2cent but if you think Rivera is doing anything but offering professional courtesy to Lovie over the last two years you're wrong. He may not hate him, but no way he's happy with him either. You would be unhappy too being let go after 13-3 and have to take a lower level position coach job, thus setting your career path back 2 years.

Well, better that than a text I guess.

That's true....although not the worst firing i have seen seen.

when I worked in public accounting, there was a layoff that happened after the busy season.  They decided to let a young guy go that had only been with the company for 3 months (people at all levels were effected).

So, they fired him by leaving him a voicemail while he was on his honeymoon.

    • Entering year three, and there are reasons I would look into this more before offering a fourth or fifth. He was drafted in round 2 in 2023.  His rookie season, he played 14 games and was targeted 40 times.  Targeted 3 times a game, basically.  He caught 27 (67.5%).  A TE target/catch percentage should be higher than a WR--70-75% is considered good.  In 11 games this season, he was targeted 32 times and caught 21.  Again, about 3 targets per game, with a target catch percentage of 66%. They decided to draft a TE after his rookie season. This means they did not see him as a #1 TE. He has not been very healthy (9 missed games in 2 seasons--26%). Could he be better with a better QB?  Probably.  Having said all that, he is an excellent blocking TE.  I would trade a 6th for him, but only if I knew Thomas and Tremble were not coming back.
    • 4th, 5th or later for him all day. Get it done ASAP.
    • the personal problems is something that would have to be checked out, but I'd do it.  That's how we got Greg Olsen.  He was a first round pick and we traded a 3rd for him a couple of years later.  He became our best TE ever
