Gantt's Take on Feeley

Yeah I read it (will read again to see if i missed something) and Moore will be #2, at least for the next month. Feeley won't just walk in and be the #2 QB. Not with Fox as the Coach.

Fox pulled Vinny off the couch and started him after being with the team for 2 days....he will do that again. Moore earned the 2 spot heading into this season....Fox refused to give it to him. Moore made Fox look like a boob in 07 b/c Fox refused to go to him until the season was finished despite being the best option. Fox has proven time and time again he doesn't make the right and somtimes obvious calls.

If and that is a big IF...Jake has to be pulled on Sunday I can see Feely being put in. Fox is that dumb.

Feeley isn't Testaverde.

If they had complete faith in Moore, he would've been made #2 in the off-season and they more than likely would have never made Jake the extension. When you know you have the next big thing on your bench (read: Aaron Rodgers sitting behind Favre) you make him your QB when the time comes. So...according to Jake's contract, Moore is supposed to ride the bench another three years? Look, Moore Lovers, I know he won us two games the other year...but you know who else won us a game? Testeverde.

Not a great example you used with Rodgers...Green Bay did send representatives to Mississippi after Favre's retirement press conference to make sure that he really did not want to come back in 2008 but Brett spurned them and stayed retired. They had so much "confidence" in Rodgers that they drafted two quarterbacks in last year's draft (including one in the second round). Remember, Rodgers had never won a game and was looked at as brittle before last season....however, Favre's indecision ended up working out in their favor because Rodgers went out there and played well when he was given the chance and they look like geniuses.

Only after the draft and upon the eve of training camp did Favre want to come back, and wanted a guaranteed starting job which the Packers were not willing to do given the fact that they finally prepared for life without Favre.

As far as comparing Moore to Testaverde....Testaverde came in and won a game against Arizona when Tim Rattay (who was also signed about 3 days before the game) got a large majority of the snaps. Moore came in and played well enough to beat one playoff team who was playing all of their starters (Seattle), and nearly led a win against another playoff team who played all their starters (Dallas) in a game in which we saw some of the shadiest officiating in recent memory. And this was with a team that started Deshaun Foster at running back, and a lethal Drew Carter/Keary Colbert as the #2 receiver combo, a washed up guard (Wahle), a complete mistake at Center (Hartwig), a left tackle that was playing out of position (Wharton), and so on and so forth...we would not be asking him to be doing nearly as much with a solid running game, better receivers, and having three years in the system. To me it's the ideal situation to see if he can be THE guy, especially if Jake pulls out a stinker this week.

The Panther's development of players has been horrible(as we all know) especially QB. I would think in preseason, instead of having Matt Moore hand the ball off every down, they would simulate game situations where Moore would have to drive the team down the field. I.E. going 3 and 4 wide (since when did going 3 wide become so fancy?! DAMMIT FOX)

yea theres reason to believe in moore..we have lost the past 2 games and jake has thrown 9 picks in the last 6 quarters so yes..we need to have faith in matt moore!

In other words, blind faith, with no tangible reason except he is not Jake.

Like many, I saw a lot of potential in Moore after 2007, but he has not really improved much since then, so my faith in him has become very shaky. And that was amplified after an interview I saw with him during the off-season program. In the entire interview, he never said one word about working on his mechanics, watching more film to improve his ability to read the defense, doing any passing, or even just working on some of the many nuances associated with being a QB. He just said he enjoyed taking time off, and in the offseason conditioning program, he would come in, lift, run a bit, then was still able to leave by about 10:00 am and have his day to himself. Again, not even one mention of working on the skill sets required to become a starting QB in the NFL...or even a plan to do so.

To me, he just didn't show the kind of dedication someone who really wants to be a starter displays. IMO, he came across just like someone who is content with their lot in life, and just wants to maintain the status quo. And since that interview, I have heard many other players talking about how they spent time in the off-season honing their sjkills and trying to improve upon their weaknesses...but still not a word from Moore about doing anything but enjoying his time off. Basically, Moore did not come off as very hungry to improve and eventually become the leader of this team.

He hasn't improved...? But he hasn't even played, how can you know, especially if the only hands the ball off to 3rd and 4th stringers in the pre-season every year.

Moore has had his chances in preseason, and a bit on Sunday, and in that time, I saw the same guy that I saw in 2007. No better command of the offense, no better accuracy, no better ability to handle pressure, no better decision-making. The best thing I saw was poise, but he had that in 2007, and until he can improve on his skills, that poise will not do much to help either him or the team.

Feeley is another veteran QB. We lost the vet backup we had. With the way Jake has been playing, we definitely need another vet backup. As much as I feel Moore should get his chance to lead this team, I also know that Fox likes to go with the veteran guy.

This is Moore's third season with the team, so if the FO do not see him capable enough to be a #2 guy. Then why is he on the roster?

A lot of people are saying that Feeley is just a vet QB who will be #3 on the depth chart and offer insurance if Jake really struggles again. The problem with this hinking is that if Jake is pulled for good, Feeley will not see the field as the # 3 QB. Face facts, Feeley has been brought in to be the # 2 guy, otherwise they would have picked up someone younger and cheaper.

Remember if Jake is simply pulled then he can mentor from the sidelines still. If he gets injured he can be put on IR and THEN we can pick up a vet. This move, means that Moore is not considered good enough to play in the league in the eyes of the FO.
