Raleigh is Deceptive... but i would bet all my money in the RDU and I've been to charlotte.

I believe Charlotte is more mature but Raleigh is Up and coming if you're looking to cash out say 5 years from now property value bla bla bla.

RDU area is GROWING LIKE CRAZY and talking as someone who's been here since 2003 till now... id bet every single penny on this area. Crazy population growth and half of the boroughs are filled with northerners who can't believe the size of house they're getting for $250k ...

Charlotte id bet is more mature and has peaked a bit... so its all you.

quick pitch for greensboro too: we're getting big, as an event destination weirdly enough, largely due to having hosted major national sporting events over the past decade (u.s. skating nat champ, ACC tourney all the time, etc.) we've got 6 different university systems, almost 300k in population (which nobody believes) and, recently, topped the list of best places in the nation for people who hate to drive in traffic (like me!) because we have more square footage paved roads per capita than any other city in the country.

great spot to put down roots. i'll be here a while.

It's cheap to live up there?

Charlotte area is nice, depending where you are. Steer clear of Cleveland county. Lincoln County, on the east end, is nice (but pricey). Mooresville area isn't terrible either. Huntersville is much the same. With the Charlotte area, it's really hit or miss. You have great areas and bad areas. Not a lot of middle ground, IMO.

RDU area is nice, but I don't know much outside of the immediate Raleigh area to advise.

The Wilmington area is always great.

Greensboro is worth looking at. Avoid Greenville though. Do not confuse the two. For your own sake.

Obviously, jobs are more limited in smaller towns...But the Sandhills area is great.  Pinehurst Southern Pines area....In the middle of everything.  1 hour to Raleigh, just under 2 hours to BOA stadium, 2-2.5 hours to Wilmington/Myrtle.  Golf is pretty much mandatory...so there's that.

compared to charlotte and raleigh, yes.

I keep seeing houses on Movato that say they are in Charlotte for like $250K. It seems like they are a little ways away from BOA? I didn't realize how big the area is.

Lots of people ITT getting highways mixed up.

Do NOT take I-81 thinking you're going to miss traffic. The road meanders all around a bunch of mountains, then connects with 95 outside of DC. That means you still have to hit all the traffic centers. You only skip Fredericksburg and Richmond.

Come to Greensboro. We have a nice little city of just under 300,000 and it's a great place to raise a family. Totally epic place that you'll love it instantly and I'm also lying my ass off. Don't move to Greensboro.
