Shula goes....who you want?

Dameyune Craig.

He already has ties to Carolina, Cam, KB and CAP. Extremely high football IQ. He is familiar with the system Cam wants to run. Not only does he have experience as an OC, he is highly regarded for his ability to work with and develop top young athletes while demonstrating the strong ability to adapt and adjust games on the fly. As a bonus he can get in Jameis Winston's head.

Second choice would be Ricky Proehl.

Interesting fact, Dameyune Craig holds the professional American football record for most passing yards in a game at 611 yards, in NFL Europe action though lol

Why?

you can easily argue we have been the most successful in franchise history with Shula as our OC. Shula is catering to his talent.  Go back and look at his Tampa talent.  Name a coordinator that looks good despite weak talent.

As long as Cam is our QB, I got no issue with Shula.

Because that team will not have Cam Newton.

Ken Whisenhunt is available. Its a name but I don't think I would want him at this point. Honestly I have no great names. All the good coryell coordinators are on successful teams now.

Jim Caldwell may become available but he hasn't worked with a QB like Cam. Not many have. I always worry that a West Coast or pass first coordinator will go away from our read option run game. Our diversity and complexity allows Cam to overcome his weaknesses on the offensive line and with his accuracy.

What about continuity with Ken Dorsey?

I have a hard time handing an offense over to a man that would still be playing in the NFL if he had the talent. I'm not putting him down. It's more of an age thing. Having players on the team older than him. He came to us in the scouting department, worked as a QB coach. He just doesn't have the experience or pedigree to take over the top scoring offense in the league. Cam wouldn't respect him the way he does Mike Shula either. It's just not his time.

I do like those two names you threw out. It would be nice to have an OC that was once calling plays for or at least associated with high scoring offenses/efficient offenses/offenses that won a SB. Both Caldwell and Whinsenhunt at least got to the SB with their offenses;

I don't think we have to worry about an OC that gets rid of anything that Newton/the offense is comfortable with/had success running this year. Being that this offense did lead the league in scoring with limited talent and produced an MVP...it would be up to the new guy to fit in and add to the offense...

It would be different if we were the Rams and struggled to put up points. And therefore changing OCs because what the offense was doing wasn't working. I would think the new OC would be expected to work with/compliment/add to Newton and the offense.
