I think they'd be better off to keep Pagano and dump Grigson, but all indications are that they're going to do just the opposite.

Pagano is supposed to be meeting with Irsay today (assuming he's sobered up from last night).

Well, maybe they didn't get along, cause Grigson wanted to keep building the shiny things to aide Luck, instead building the team from the inside out.

I distinctly remember a few years a go, the Colts wanted Luck to throw less and having a good running game. It appeared, things changed 2 yrs ago and and last year. And maybe Pagano wasn't down with that?

If this is true I expect it to be a done deal by the close of business today

I think Payton is going to end up leaving New Orleans but there's too many moving pieces to get it all wrapped up today.  Most of the firing announcements may not happen until after 1 or 2pm today, then trade compensation has to be agreed upon by the teams, then the team getting Payton has to agree with him on a contract, and finally the team that get's Payton also must meet the Rooney rule guidelines and interview a minority candidate before any final decision can be made.

Plus, on a side note.....Part of Drew Brees contact becomes guaranteed on Feb 10th so a decision on extending or releasing him will have to be made in the next couple of weeks.

It's way more than that...

“Grigson is significantly more involved in the coaching area than [Bill] Polian ever was,” Kravitz writes. “Sources tell me Grigson not only dictated who would and would not play, but undermined Pagano when he wanted to discipline certain players.”

Kravitz then shares several specific examples from the Grigson-Pagano years, an array of information from unnamed sources that clearly traces to Pagano and members of his staff who are about to be dropped after failing to get more out of a roster littered with bad draft picks and misguided free-agency decisions made by Grigson.

First, Kravitz writes that, after trading for running back Trent Richardson in 2013, Grigson continued to insist that Richardson play, even though he wasn’t playing very well. “According to sources, Grigson was concerned with creating the narrative that it was a good trade,” Kravitz says.

Second, Kravitz reports that Grigson insisted on the use of punt returner Josh Cribbs last year, against the desires of Pagano and several members of his staff.

Third, Kravitz explains that Grigson kept Pagano from disciplining certain players he wanted to discipline.

Fourth, Kravitz says that Grigson forced former offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton on Pagano. “Pep was never answerable to Chuck. Pep answered to Ryan, and everybody in the building knew it,” Kravitz said, citing an unnamed source.

As a result of those and other factors — including the presentation to Pagano of a one-year extension in the offseason that Pagano found unacceptable — Pagano and Grigson has virtually no relationship, according to Kravitz.

Right/I get that.

And it sure as hell appears, Grigson and all his "meddling" has been dictating against Pagono. And he's more to blame for the current failures than the Head Coach (as many of this indicates)?

I'd say so.

Bad enough that you drafted / traded for guys like Trent Richardson, but then you're gonna force your head coach to play them just so you don't look bad?

Guess what, dumbass? When they play poorly, you still look bad.

See, that's what I was thinking of with my original post.

You trade for Trent Richardson, he doesn't work out. So you decide to start flinging the ball all over the place, instead of trying to go back/and improve on the team the way  you wanted.  And Pagano, just seems like an Ole skool Guy to me, instead of one who wants big shiny things.

There was word that some of the players were lobbying Irsay to keep Pagano.

Far as I know, nobody's standing up for Grigson.
