Personnel and Coaching

I don't blame Allen or CJ for their lackluster performances. I blame the coaches who are in charge of setting the roster. A stop gap aging DE should never have been the starter and dominated snap counts like Allen does. A still injured CJ should never of been force to go from nothing to starting and dominating snap counts. This goes to Harper for having 100% of the snaps lately since the saints game. No Tre at all is ridiculous.

It's the coaches job to pull a guy or two ,even if they fight it, for their own good.

It's the coaches job to ease older guys back and limit their playing time so they are fresh and have a chance to be amazing.

It's the coaches job to share snaps and choose the best % of young and old so the old arnt tired and the young arnt lost.

It's the couches job to realize when someone's tired or needs a damn break.

It's the coaches job to manage the damn personnel. They have stopped doing that well and ever since we've been doing worse.

Usually a injury would force them to do the right thing but not this year. Why is this still a problem? Ron waxes profetic every week saying he needs to limit them yet every week for 5 weeks he hasn't limited anything.

Why is this the achellis heel of the panthers? I hate it. Stand up and sit a guy. Maybe he will thank you.

Not about losing. About putting ourselves in the best position to win. Being able to handle players and key in to who needs to be out there and when is a big part of that. The coaches have gone away from that and it's frustrating. They keep saying they need to be smart about vets playing time but they keep not doing that. It's hurting the team and our longevity towards a super bowl.

Why is it news to some posters here that Rivera loves veterans? He had always erred on the side of starting, and giving the majority of playing time to them.

Well yeah cause you wouldn't want to play Shaq, Devin, Kelvin, Kony, Trai, Star, Kawaan, A.J., Bene. Josh etc.

This is not a John Fox play a done Deshaun when DWill is clearly a better player team.

You will be bashed due to our regular season record.  However you are right. These older guys are tired and its showing.  So we leave it to cam to bear the weight, i just hope his shoulders are strong enough.

I hope im wrong.

Its not that the older guys suck.  They have done more than enough.  Its just that the nfl season is long and they are showing fatigue.  Primarily on defense.  We have young hungry talented players.  Use them.

You are blind if you dont see the issues on defence.  You think anyone will show mercy on our lack of pass rush or lack of secondary speed in the playoffs?  We are a well balanced and deep team.  Its just time to use that.  Thats all the OP is saying.

We don't utilize our depth when we should. Boston has to be ready. He can at least give Harper a blow or mental break when he needs it. Our rb depth is stout, yet we rarely spell Stew. While he's had a tremendous year, imagine what a defense would do having to tackle him all game, then having to face Fozzy and CAP in the second half? We'd keep fresh legs, they'd have to sub guys in late to give breathers, that's when Ginn and Funch go deep and do damage to these teams.

DE depth is seriously underused.

WR depth is used wisely, opening spots for Cotch to shine.

We've really gotta shake up our coverage scheme. I'm hoping to all hope that the coaches said "these last two games, we're not rolling out serious game plans. We're not giving playoff teams good film". It's unlikely, but god I'm hoping...

Johnson was the clear cut answer that we needed. When he went down I recall everyone  proclaiming FUG !!! But I don't believe he is rushed back, or hurt. Hell fire.. I'd you're not on the injury report, then you aren't really hurt. ( not always the case but ) when you miss 3 quarters of the season like Johnson. You have no excuse for lackluster play, there are guys like short, star, Luke, td, shaq at times more often than not, Norman, Coleman, Klein, that are bringing it every week. So I don't want to hear any "hurt" excuses.

You're wrong. Look what happened last year when they started playing the young guys! Oh wait........

I was just going over Sunday's snap counts for our DE's...

Charles Johnson: 41

Jared Allen: 34

Kony Ealy: 32

Mario Addison: 22

Ryan Delaire: 17

Kony Ealy and Mario Addison are tied for second on the team in QB hurries with 37 trailing Kwann Short (66). I get that Addison is more of a situational pass rusher much like Delaire (who gets abused against the run) but with 2 of the better run stopping LB'ers I think it's time to switch things up a bit and at the very least let Kony get the majority of the snaps over Allen. It's clear at this point Allen just isn't what he used to be and has only hurt the development of Kony. It's time to let Kony loose on Sunday before the playoffs!

As far as Harper goes he's a liability all over the field. For a vet he has taken some dumb penalties and leaves a lot of plays on the field with poor positioning. Now with that said I think Boston is overrated by most here not sure if it's a UNC thing or what but I wish they would've given Shaq a look at SS at least while TD is still playing.

At the end of the day this defense has a lot of holes with only so many talented bodies. We're constantly having to find places to bring pressure from due to our front 4's lack of pressure and it's killing us. McDermott is in a tough spot due to this entire D being built around getting pressure with the front 4. With little options I don't see much changing in the near future...
