Let's talk Cardinals...

UpstatePanther

Recommended Posts

Probably our stiffest competition left for a Lombardi. I'm honestly not too familiar with their team. I know they have an overachieving QB, an overachieving RB forced into the lineup by injuries, and a stout defense. But all I hear from the media us that they are better than the Panthers. But the media always gives feel good reasons, "they just feel better."

So educate me, what are the Cardinals weaknesses? How does their team match up against ours?

Well, from what I know, they have very good receivers, a good young RB, and good old QB. Their o-line is decent, but with a statue for a QB, they do give up sacks.

On defense, the d-line is decent, LBs are pretty good, CBs and safeties are good, but suffered a big loss when honey badger went down.

That is about all I know. They are a good team, but we can beat them if we play the game we are capable of playing. If not, they will beat us.

Not a lot of help. But I am no analyst.

They are very reminiscent of the Harbaugh Niners. Physical team with depth at every position, few visible weaknesses and a great head coach.

They have the roster I think we will have next season once DG cuts CJ and opens up all that salary room and overhauls the pass rush.

I like the top talents on our roster (Cam, Luke, Short, Norman, etc) over theirs, the question will be if those guys can pick up the slack for the other deficiencies on the roster  (pass rush, receivers, special teams) in the playoffs as they have all season.

If we can figure out how to get pressure with our front 4, we have a chance. If it's gonna be a one man show like it has been in recent weeks, we aren't going to win. It's as simple as that. Big changes are going to be needed in the defensive department. We need our linebackers to cover the short passing game, we can't send them on too many blitzes to cover for our overmatched DEs.

The game against Tampa will tell us our post season chances, if Doug Martin and Jameis move the ball down the field effortlessly, we have no shot at beating a much superior offense that is clicking on all cylinders atm.

If you look at the Minnesota game when AZ blitzes, and they do it a lot, you can see gigantic openings in their defense. Even the Vikings dummy at QB saw it, but he didn't always see it quickly enough. When he did it was an easy TD or completion. When he saw it too late, he got hit, and those hits scared the piss out of him. He was visibly shaken and started to full on melt down like an idiot. Vikings could have easily won the game with decent QB play.

AZ's offense is steady as you go, run the ball, pinpoint passing, and wait for the opposition to give the game away on offense. Palmer is totally immobile, but he's pampered with good protection and very crafty.

AZ looks dominant because this is a down year for most NFL teams. Just as an example, GB would normally be better than AZ, but GB has major OT problems.

they have a lot of good receivers who seem to always get open, which is bad for us b/c we've been consistently struggling to get a pass rush and have been recently sucking hard in the area of defensive backs actually covering passes. They love to get in the gun with a bunch of receivers spread out so there's usually at least one receiver open from what I've watched.

They have a good running back and O line gets the job done more often than not.

I agree with pantherjack , their strengths on offense are pretty much perfectly  suited to exploit our major defensesive weakness. Panthers will have to somehow figure out their defensive woes before they can beat arizona.

I believe that we matchup very good with each other. I believe we will stop their running game. If we can do that we will be able to get pressure on the QB. I believe RR will go younger on D-line peppering in CJ and Allen (unless they start playing better). I know 20 million /year is a lot but not when it comes to the Superbowl. If Ginn can get over the top it will open up Olsen and i'm not sure they have anyone to match up great with him. Fitz is slower now but still good. I believe TD, Luke, or Shaq will be able to slow him down and Floyd is the type of receiver Norman has been shutting down all year. John Brown scares me a little but we will have a plan i'm sure to stop him. I know they are good but so are we and I honestly think we are the better team. Minn had them beat if it wasn't for a fumble and that will give a good blueprint. Never the less it will be a good game.
