The importance of Stewart

TBH if we stuck with Fozzy and CAP I think we could have done fine. We were gashing them in run defense that first drive and then we decided only to run on third and short for some reason. Instead we let the Falcons dictate the gameplay as soon as they scored on that first drive.

Well said , I believe he was also # 1 back in Pass Protection. We dont need  a downhill runner, we need a feature back that can do everyting and that requires a 1st or 2nd round investment. I think its worth especially the way Panthers are built.

He helps to keep the defense off of the field... So yea rest for your defense probably allows them to cover, and tackle better one would assume.

This is it. My whole belief as to why we can win 4 straight is Jonathan Stewart's value to the run game. He can do it all for us in that he can run out of I-formation, read-option, he protects, he can catch. You can't key on the offense with him and there might even be more Cam CAN do at the line when he has Stew in there rather than CAP or Fozzie. Adding Stew back to this offense will allow us to be unpredictable, convert our 3rd downs, and therefore get back to owning time of possession and putting the pressure back on the opposing offense to make a play, which is where our defense feasts because teams will make mistakes and we can disguise more of our scheme when we know the team has to throw.

It all starts with Stew.

We need him back, but he doesn't cover receivers or tackle RB's and therefore his healthy presence doesn't cover all the bases.

Kinda of does when he helps keep our defense off the field.  Stewart let's us grind out the clock and opens up our read option run game.

The secret to the Panthers RB core is that if you can't block you won't play. That is why a rookie phenom might be on the bench a while. Look how long it was before DWill could finally pry the ball from Deshaun Foster and how long it took for Stew to be the feature. You gotta block as good as you run. Stew is excellent at both.
