One DE sack in five games per B&B review

CJ is going to be so salty after he gets cut.  He might even reach Smitty levels. Which is funny given his Kermit "none of my business" tweet after DeAngelo got cut last year. Of course he'd be wise not to talk crap on his way out given that he's opening a restaurant but I don't think he has the restraint to keep his mouth shut.

Ealy played the highest snap % of all DEs in the Atl ass kicking.  The one game where we harassed a QB recently

Allen and CJ have played a significantly higher % than other DEs vs NYG, Saints and today...were our secondary was abused b/c of lack of pressure

black and blue has the snap counts.  Very telling

That may be misleading since Ealy played the entire 4th quarter while Allen and CJ sat which would skew the final numbers. I'd be interested to see 1st half snap counts for that game but I'm not aware of anywhere that tracks that info.

We don't need to take our DTs off the field.....they can play.

Lotulelei can't rush the passer all that well.  In 3rd and long situations, Ealy could be used to rush up the middle.  It would give him more snaps even with CJ on the field.  However with the way CJ is playing, Ealy needs to start and take the majority of the snaps at DE.

Ron and Sean and Mike do have a love affair with the highly paid veterans.

17 points is less than the average given up by the best defenses in the league. You can't win them all but you can't blame the defense too much for this one either.

This^^^

Defense didn't play a great game, but they did manage to hold Atlanta to 20 points.

Had the Panthers offense scored even half the points that they normally do, chances are excellent that the team leaves Atlanta with a win today.

The Falcons punted once.

ONCE.

The low score was only due to the fact that BOTH teams, when they scored, took a LOT of time off of the clock.  It sure as hell wasn't because the defense made a critical stop.

Doesn't alter the fact that the offense had ample opportunities and failed to capitalize.

Carolina didn't score even half the point's they've been averaging this season.

Defense was far from good today, but holding an opponent to 20 points would usually result in a victory for the Panthers.

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
