Nope 16-0 is still pretty historic. 16-0 is still something to hang your hat on.

It's still just another season if you don't get a ring, in fact it makes not getting one that much worse. Ask the Patriots

I wish a team would actually have the balls and say, "Yeah, our goal is to win every game we play."  Why, why are teams who win for so long, so scared to go for an undefeated season? (That is 19-0)  To me, if there was any pressure of going undefeated, it was brought on by ourselves by our fear of committing to it.

I don't know. The more I think about it, the team just looked completley lost out their today across the board. Something is up. Initially I wanted to blame it on pressure but I don't think so anymore. The entire team seemed uninterested, lost, and care free. Can't really blame it on focus considering a win today would have locked up HFA. Something is defintley up. Nobody even seemed to care after the game was over.

You dead on, I was thinking the same today

I agree with the poster who said we finally paid for the same weaknesses we've had all season. Teams like Indy, Green Bay, and New York all figured out how to catch this defense off guard and expose our zone coverages. No pass rush equals not getting off the field on 3rd down. It is a huge problem. All of these teams stopped dropping back and started taking the underneath routes on 1st and 2nd down.  The difference is that Atlanta didn't wait until the 4th quarter to do it. They started in on that after the Tillman penalty on that first drive.

Another difference about the Atlanta game was that for the first time all season a team had 2 receivers show up big against us. Roddy White had a great game and that complimented what Julio did. One of them was open on 3rd and long almost every time.  They held onto the ball for sustained drives. They still rarely got to the edge running the ball, but it didn't matter. Clearly they got the matchup a they wanted when they got Julio in coverage with Kuechly. Colman was no help either on that 70 Yarder. Julio got open against Norman a lot in the first half.

if if we don't fix this teams like Seattle and Arizona are going to slice this defense apart.

on offense, I feel better assuming that this was just an off day. Remmers was exposed on the O-line.

Cam wasn't as composed. Receivers were not consistent.

On a positive note: Artis Payne is a very good running back.

I would like to see the following:

1.  Williams replace Remmers.

2.  Boston replace Harper

3.  Delaire get more playing time with Johnson being benched (or at least further down the rotation)

We have got to stop going with vets when we have guys just as capable, if not more capable, waiting for their opportunity.

I think it takes a toll psychologically week after week going undefeated...the playoffs are draining enough as it is...so I was weary of the streak continuing...and kinda relieved its over...

now we are in great position to secure home field and get motor charged again

I think the only psychological toll is the one we create for ourselves.  If we simply state we want to win all our games and go out to try and accomplish it, I don't see how that can weigh on anyone's mind.  The excitement should grow with each win.

it is draining as fans ...but I believe as players as well...think of it like an orgasm...with each win and streak getting longer its like an orgasm...but at some point you cant get it up anymore lol

now they can get horny to win again lol

Haha, that's interesting.  I wonder what winning the superbowl would be like.  Hopefully if we win it, next year we should seek 19 climatic experiences.

Tre Boston playing in place of Kurt Coleman and Brandon Wegher playing in place of Fozzy Whitaker would have made the difference against Atlanta.

Maybe the coaches will realize it just in time like they do every season after they finally realize their free agent journeymen are not cutting it.

Here is the reality of the Panthers' situation Sunday, but #10 sums it up:

1. They had the draining, emotional game in NY the week before.

2. The Falcons were treating this as a playoff game--hell, it was their Super Bowl.

3.  The Panthers beat the Falcons like a dirty rug 2 weeks before by 38-0.

4. The Falcons game was the second of back-to-back road games.

5. With the playoffs wrapped up and a first round bye, the focus was on not losing more than beating the Falcons.

6. The Panthers were showing signs of not handling prosperity well.  The bat at the Giants game, Norman, etc.  A coach that let that happen.  Scared to change "who we are."  Louisville sluggers and trash from our PS players is not "who we are."

7. The Panthers had been dancing with the devil a lot this year because the Panthers usually play to the level of their opponent.

8. The Panthers schedule this season was the "perfect storm".  Pretty easy (NFC South and East; AFC East) and we played tougher teams when they were figuring things out (Houston, Seattle, Green Bay).  Is this to suggest that the Panthers are not as good as 14-1?  Probably, but they are.  Atlanta has a winning record, lets not forget, and they were at home.

9.  The odds caught up to the Panthers.  If the Jags play New England 16 times in a year, how likely is 16-0 for the Pats?  I see 14-2, 13-3 maybe.  Point?  Anyone can beat anyone on any given Sunday.  That is the beauty of the league.  Baltimore beat Pittsburgh in a critical game for the Steelers.  How does that happen?

10.  This team is only as good as Cam Newton plays.  Cam was in him hometown and perhaps pressing a bit.  Let's face it, we are not beating anyone with Ginn, Brown, Funchess, Remmers, and Whittaker without Cam Newton playing his best.

After 24 hours, I'm glad we lost.

Yes it would have been awesome to go undefeated, but let's be clear- this team was due for a loss. We've gotten lucky this season multiple times.

We won't go undefeated, but we might look back at this Atlanta loss as the kick we needed to win the Lombardi.

If Mike Remmers can return to form, our DE's can generate some sacks, and our secondary can hold it together we are the best team in the league this year. I'm excited- this is what you play for.
