Josh Norman stays on one side of the field, Norman isn't a real shutdown corner

Do either of you think that that this could be an issue because of the age of some of our more important players on defense? maybe they tire out in the 4th quarter. Harper, Tillman, TD, Chuck, some of the DT rotation. These guys are all getting up there. Plus if you factor in Finnegan probably not quite in game shape yet, the amount of snaps Luke and Coleman take. I feel like all these could contribute to the loss of focus.

Probably mostly Harper. Having good safeties are really important to the D. They're the last line of defense. Usually when a team is able to go over the top, it's because Harper blew an assignment or was too slow to get to where he needs to be.

I believe Odell McSorely was shut down up to the point of the Panthers got up on the Giants 35-7 late in the 3rd quarter. At this point, the man coverage of Norman on Odell is over and the Panthers stop going after Manning with DBs and LBs while simply relying on the front 4 while playing off in zone coverage (Cover 3 and Quarters) for the late part of the 3rd and 4th quarter.

The Panthers gave the league the book on how to shut down the Eli to Beckham combo. Play physical. Place leverage on Odell's shoulder when Eli sets up since that is when he makes his double move before the ball is in the air. Bail deep looking for the ball when you see Odell make his double move. Maintain a lead position prior to the double move, and never let Odell target the front or top of the defender's shoulder pads going into and coming out of the double move.

The one time this was not done properly Odell was able to score a TD. Yes, Odell got Norman and pushed off his shoulder, but that was expected since Odell relies heavily on that combo to get separation from the defender and establish timing with his QB.

Norman is a shut down CB. Same as the other week shutting down Julio Jones. They will see Norman a lot less in man when he shuts them out and the Panthers go to cover 3 and quarters for the rest of the game since they have a 50 point lead by halftime.
