Josh Norman stays on one side of the field, Norman isn't a real shutdown corner

I'm talking about DBs covering WR routes....whether the play is made or not, the coverage or lack thereof still exists.  Carolina did a poor job on Sunday covering many routes.  That is simply a fact.

Secondary needs to play better.

Not sure how THAT statement is getting your stirred up.   We gave up 35 pts to the Giants and they didn't even have a "good" day and did in fact leave plays on the field (that is what open WRs downfield who you don't make the play to is).

look my friend, I don't care to or try to "best" anyone.  I talk football on a message board.   It isn't that serious. If you want to for some reason make this post about me? and act like we played good defensively simply b/c Cam did something no one in the history of the game has done?  ok.

The defense shut them down and owned then for 3 quarters Sunday.

We gave up 35 pts to the Giants by losing our focus in the 4th with a big lead...having a blocked FG...going untra conservative on offense....and giving up a turnover than have them a 30 yard field...all in one quarter.

And the 38 pts to NO had almost as much to do with the offense having 3turnovers in the first half as it did the with defense.  That was a wake up game.

We are Top 10 in every defensive category this season.

To me, the biggest issue that RR and the defense needs to address is the losing focus late in games where we have a big lead.  That is the real Achilles heal that this D has right now....and it has nearly bitten us 3 times this season.

I agree with the big lead issue being worrisome.  We basically often look like the New Orleans or Giants D when we get up on an opponent.

and the fact we struggle to even get FG kicks off is beyond in insane.  That one play basically flipped it from a 3 score to 1 score game.

I like to look at the Giants game like the NO game....they basically can learn and correct the things most people realize coming off from a loss.  But we still win the games so it is kinda the best of both worlds.

I don't know what the hell is going on with our FG issues...so I won't even touch that one.

agree on the best of both worlds.  I love how the Giants game played out.  It is s good teaching moment for RR.  Nothing was to be gained by two blowout wins in a row

At first I was getting pissed that people in the media were downplaying his skills.

Then I realized. Who cares? I see what he does week in and week out. I know he is a beast...and he is a Panther.

That's all that matters.

When people were saying this about Sherman...deep down we all still knew that he is a beast and that people don't throw at him for a reason.

And let's say they are right and Norman is just a zone corner that shuts down his side...then he still SHUT DOWN HIS SIDE. Are they trying to say that isn't valuable? Fug em.

My question is: what does it really matter? His play is outstanding in our system and he does what the coaches ask him to do.

Dans and players always regurgitate the same tripe: he plays zone and doesn't stay in the number 1s.

Well, those number 1s are being moved AWAY from his zone BECAUSE he is shutting them down.

Again, it's all irrelevant to me; just pointing out a flaw in their tired argument.

All Norman can do is what the coaches ask of him.

The objective is to win the game. Rivera isn't going to say to himself, "Let's have Norman track Beckham all game long so we can see who is actually better."

They are going to play him the best way to suit the scheme. Again to win the fuggin game. Not watch a personal match up for 60 minutes.

Merry Christmas Mad Hatter.   or Happy Holidays.  or Happy Everthing.  or Have a Day.

Whichever applies to you and yours.

Happy Holidays to you and your family too.  Hope you have a great weekend and that it ends with another beatdown of the hated Falcons.

"Norman isn't a real shutdown corner"

We need to get this 'truth' out there. Let every team on our schedule know that Josh can be had- he's overrated. Just throw his way and rest assured he'll fall down or fall behind, or get faked out of the play. And if it doesn't work and he keeps knocking down passes and intercepting them, just keep trying, 'cause he's really not a shutdown corner, he's just faking it.

OBJ never had anything on Norman the whole game. The drop pass was on Harper. If you watch the replay, you can easily see Norman was letting him go to the safety. When the ball is thrown, Norman changes direction to run after a wide open OBJ because Harper didn't do his job as usual. The actual TD catch was a total pushoff that was never called. So no, OBJ never got anything on Norman. Full psychopath or not.

Do either of you think that that this could be an issue because of the age of some of our more important players on defense? maybe they tire out in the 4th quarter. Harper, Tillman, TD, Chuck, some of the DT rotation. These guys are all getting up there. Plus if you factor in Finnegan probably not quite in game shape yet, the amount of snaps Luke and Coleman take. I feel like all these could contribute to the loss of focus.
