Josh Norman stays on one side of the field, Norman isn't a real shutdown corner

Apparently that's the narrative this week.

I'm pretty sure I've seen Norman play on the right side, I'm pretty sure Norman follows the number 1 receiver when the defense is called to do so. The fact that teams have to change their entire game plan so they won't throw to Norman side speaks volumes, Odell had to almost strictly lineup from the slot or left side, which he doesn't do as often as last weeks game.

People look at Odell's stat line and think he got the best of Josh but really most of his yards came on a 40 something yard catch on Finnegan and the TD was a total pushoff. Josh didn't follow him into the slot but neither do "shutdown" corners like Revis.

Odell for his credit did burn Norman over the top but pulled a Ginn

It was cover 3. Harper left his zone to trail Dwayne Harris going over the middle.

Norman had outside leverage.

Ball was thrown to Harper's zone.

And teams move their WR into the slot to get them away from Nornan....they are scared

Beckham would have had Norman on Sunday.  Neither he nor our D actually played well...getting in his head and his meltdown was huge for us.

When he did run routes and wasn't focused on fighting, he pretty much had his way with his route running. He should of had 2 TDs on Norman....those 2 alone would have been 90ish yards and 2 TDs.  He also got open other deep routes and Eli simply wasn't looking his way.

Carolina did a great job vs Beckham on the underneath routes....they couldn't cover him on the deeper routes (either Beckham couldn't catch them or Eli didn't throw them).

as far as moving Josh, Josh will play either side (on the outside) if the opponent is good enough to demand it.  Dez, Julio, etc.

So he would have had the better of Nornam......except that he didn't.

i guess you live in an alternate universe where OBJ does not have a mental meltdown....and he torched our D all game for 200 yds and 3 TD's....and the Giants won.  Is that it?  If not, you are once again talking out of your ass.

Typical bullshit post by you....you should just stop.

I addressed his meltdown...said it was big.  It was big.  Was huge in the outcome of the game.

As far as purely covering routes.....we struggled  covering his routes when he wasn't running underneath routes.  Underneath stuff we destroyed.  Giants would still have to make the play downfield, and they DID NOT.  But my post was about covering his routes.

Secondary didn't have a good day in coverage on certain routes....and that goes across the board.  Doesn't matter if in that game if the opponent doesn't make the play.  Would matter in other games if the opponent made the play our D was giving up for them.

Bottom line, like against New Orleans....our secondary needs to play much better than they did against the Giants in the future.  They did not play well.  They gave up a lot of plays, and NY frankly left a lot of plays on the field.   If you want to argue against that?  I would say that you sir are the one pulling the Ace Ventura.

Don't get too sensitive and read to read too much into.  Secondary didn't have a good day in coverage on certain routes....and that goes across the board.  Doesn't matter if in that game if the opponent doesn't make the play.  Would matter in other games if the opponent made the play our D was giving up for them.

Fact is that you have absolutely no idea how this game would have played out if he had not had a melt down....so stop acting like you do.

Would he have torched us and the Giants have won...maybe.

Would he have been shut down and we won bigger...maybe.

Fact is that neither you nor anyone else knows what would have happened.

You constantly think you are the smartest guy in the room...and you may be at home.  However, there are dozens on here that constantly best you and show how your arguements are laughable.

Thanks for playing.

I'm talking about DBs covering WR routes....whether the play is made or not, the coverage or lack thereof still exists.  Carolina did a poor job on Sunday covering many routes.  That is simply a fact.

Secondary needs to play better.

Not sure how THAT statement is getting your stirred up.   We gave up 35 pts to the Giants and they didn't even have a "good" day and did in fact leave plays on the field (that is what open WRs downfield who you don't make the play to is).

look my friend, I don't care to or try to "best" anyone.  I talk football on a message board.   It isn't that serious. If you want to for some reason make this post about me? and act like we played good defensively simply b/c Cam did something no one in the history of the game has done?  ok.
