Legitimate question that may or may not deserve its own thread, but I'm not that guy...

Has any player had the kind of season Cam has had this year AFTER signing their big money contract?

Most guys ball out in a contract year and get paid. And it's generally accepted that in the NFL you get a contract for what you've done, not what you're going to do. I'm drunk with family in town for the holidays and can't recall, has anyone signed a blockbuster deal and then gone on to have an MVP type season after the fact?

Thats gotta be rare because I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Dalton most recently. In the middle of his best year before getting hurt.

Belichick runs things in NE, so I doubt it's him. Would also bet they didn't poll Gettleman either.

My first thought was it's probably an AFC East guy who's used to seeing Brady beat his team.

I believe you have an issue identifying sarcasm.

As I've said before, there's a chance Cam Newton will sweep the votes if he continues to play at a high level his last two games.  But it's just a chance.  Many will still likely point to Tom Brady and say, "now show us you can do it as consistently and for as long as he has."

Which I don't disagree with.  Cam Newton will need at least another two years of similar production before he's finally considered elite.

Or win a Super Bowl.

Cam has only had 1 sub par year as far as I'm concerned. He was shaky his sophomore year (his subpar year) and last year he was hurt. People like to discredit him by saying he hasn't done it consistently but he has been a damn good QB for the most part during his time here. If we win the SB this year he'll be in the top 3

Best argument for Cam's MVP status is the fact that Ted Ginn is on pace for 850 yards and 12 TDs (while only dropping 10% of his targets).

Ted Ginn.

He would be sitting on roughly 1100 yards and 14 tds now if he could catch.

Some GMs have Brady, Rodgers, Cam, Wilson, Brees to play smart GM with, other GMs have, you know, the rest. Take any of those QBs and put them on any of those teams picking top 10 and that team will be a playoffs team the following year.

Brees is missing the playoffs again. Takes more than just a QB.

You see, they don't feel we are that talented.

Yep...nothing says no talent like the leading MVP candidate....two DPOY candidates...and 10 pro bowlers.  I am betting that GM's team is on the outside of the playoffs looking in again.
