Legitimate question that may or may not deserve its own thread, but I'm not that guy...

Has any player had the kind of season Cam has had this year AFTER signing their big money contract?

Most guys ball out in a contract year and get paid. And it's generally accepted that in the NFL you get a contract for what you've done, not what you're going to do. I'm drunk with family in town for the holidays and can't recall, has anyone signed a blockbuster deal and then gone on to have an MVP type season after the fact?

Thats gotta be rare because I can't think of any off the top of my head.

I've never looked at that specifically but I know a 20mil dollar QB has never won the Superbowl. Peyton has had great years, Brees has had some good years, but the overall team couldn't win with the massive cap hit. Flacco obviously hasn't gone well in Baltimore.

I do know one guy that has played well after signing a big contract....Luke Kuechly.

for every six i know better than one of them!

Haha!

And you may not know every college or NFL player better than NFL GM's. However, you may know your college or pro team-such as The Panthers, and it's particular players-more so than an NFL GM (just like national media) for articles like this.

It's not like these guys have watched every Cam Newton game before doing this article. But you have, article or not!

Let's ask Colin Kaepernick!

He should know something about that recently (cough, cough)!

Bet the lone vote for Brady was from the NE general manager.

Belichick runs things in NE, so I doubt it's him. Would also bet they didn't poll Gettleman either.

My first thought was it's probably an AFC East guy who's used to seeing Brady beat his team.

Honestly any person who is paid to analyze football that doesn't think Cam is the MVP right now needs to be fired.

The man has 40 total tds, leading the #1 offense in football, and is 14-0 with Ted Ginn as his #1 receiver. Ted fuging Ginn.

Exactly. People do not realize that our receivers won't start on other teams. He made those around him better. This is Michael Jordan, Lebron James status

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
