Through the eyes of top NFL evaluators, the MVP race may already be over.

An informal survey of six NFL general managers — three from each conference — on Wednesday yielded five votes for Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton and one for New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.

“In my opinion, it’s not even close,” one GM said, speaking on condition of anonymity for competitive reasons. “It’s Cam for sure.”

I always thought he was kind of inaccurate and kind of a (jerk),” the first GM said of Newton. “But he’s growing up, and he’s making big-time plays. Because they’re not really that talented

Dear random NFL GM,

Go fug yourself.

xoxo,

INGBA

EDIT: Before anyone says "he's an NFL GM, what do you know?" let me point out...the one GM who voted Brady did so because Carolina has more Pro Bowlers on offense than New England. This guy says the team isn't that talented. So which NFL GM is right?

Honestly any person who is paid to analyze football that doesn't think Cam is the MVP right now needs to be fired.

The man has 40 total tds, leading the #1 offense in football, and is 14-0 with Ted Ginn as his #1 receiver. Ted fuging Ginn.

Exactly.

Legitimate question that may or may not deserve its own thread, but I'm not that guy...

Has any player had the kind of season Cam has had this year AFTER signing their big money contract?

Most guys ball out in a contract year and get paid. And it's generally accepted that in the NFL you get a contract for what you've done, not what you're going to do. I'm drunk with family in town for the holidays and can't recall, has anyone signed a blockbuster deal and then gone on to have an MVP type season after the fact?

Thats gotta be rare because I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Certainly Favre and Rodgers would be examples of players recently who have done just this.

    • Hope Koch recovers (he’s stated numerous times he doesn’t like to be called “koochie”) soon. But he does not instill confidence in the crease. I don’t have any confidence in any of our goalies, healthy or not. Andersen when available gives us the best chance to win but he’s never available.    Team has to explore trade options soon.
    • Respectfully, I completely disagree. Last year we were:  32nd in Sacks. 32nd in Turnovers.  32nd in Rushing TDs allowed  29th in Scoring.  We were absolutely atrocious on defense last year and that was with a full stable of weapons in Derek Brown, Frankie Luvu and Brian Burns that played all 17 games.  Using yards per game as a metric to guage our success lacks the context that because our offense was so inept teams were not driving the length of the field, they were starting at their 40-50 yard line.  This year, our Defense ranks:  31st in Sacks. Tied for 19th in Turnovers  31st in Rushing TDs allowed 32nd in Scoring  His defense fails to get pressure, fails to turn the ball over and fails to stop the run. Three things you absolutely have to do to be successful in the NFL.  Denver meanwhile has not missed a beat without him.  If another team wants to hire him as a HC and the Panthers get two 3rds for it I'll wish him the best and pack his bags myself.
