NFL Discussing OBJ punishment today

And if (per Peter King) Odell could appeal - the fact that he's (allegedly) looking to apologize in some manner means he's running scared and knows he did wrong in a big way.  It's one thing to be fined/suspended by surprise, it's another when you know it's going to happen.

What gets me is that Coughlin is on record as saying that he wanted to bench OBJ but didn't since Tom wanted to win the game.  If the NFL is considering actions against the referees for not ejecting/penalizing OBJ at the appropriate time, the NFL should also consider imposing fines on Coughlin for knowing this stuff was going on and putting winning over player safety.

He is going to get fines totaling at least over $50,000 as mandated in the CBA in addition to a suspension and loss of game checks that come with it. $17k for each punch of which there were at least 2 and I think 3 since he is a repeat offender from the Buffalo game then $23k for spearing Josh then 2 more fines for his other two unsportsmanlike conduct penalties. It could be around $100k just for him. Josh will probably get around $25k in fines which seems appropriate since he wasn't exactly innocent yesterday. OBJ deserves everything he is going to get. I think I would be fine with him getting $100k and 1 game. I think he deserves $100k and 2 games. Sit his ass for the rest of the year. Screw that POS.

Yeah, but that game check is gonna hurt the worst.

His game checks are actually only $52k for this year. He could lose the equivalent of 3 game checks for a 1 game suspension and possibly 4 if he gets 2 games.

Stephen A on First Take this morning is saying Norman might be concussed..

I haven't heard this..and if so Beckham needs more than one game suspension..

Huh. That's the first I've heard that speculation too. Did he say why he thought that? Or is he basing it on the nature of the hit?

He said both Prime and Carter have been trying to get in contact with Norman and they think the reason they aren't able to speak with him is because they think he is concussed..

Norman did talk with Mike and Mike though..

I love how even though they say Odell is a jerk they don't use one of 500 available photos of him being dirty, they show him as if he's the innocent one and Norman is the punk.

Hmm I get a different vibe than you seeing the pic. I saw it as a dad taking control of his kid that thinks hes tough pooh.

If the NFL doesn't suspend OBJ for at least one game (and get it to stick, rather than be appealed and dismissed as a non-issue), then we may want to consider replacing the NFL commissioner with Sepp Blatter and Michel Platini - I hear they're available for the job now.

If the NFL doesn't do anything, they're no better than FIFA's administration

Aside from all the physical stuff going on between them, why wasn't a penalty called when OBJ took his helmet off? Or when he intentionally stepped over Norman in the endzone (taunting)?

Section 3 Unsportsmanlike Conduct REMOVAL OF HELMET (h) Removal of his helmet by a player in the field of play during a celebration or during a confrontation with a game official or any other player.

    • Too late to edit above but the quote is from this Diane Russini article in the Athletic: https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/5941684/2024/11/23/russinis-what-im-hearing-the-day-the-jets-fell-apart-and-the-broncos-rallied-belichick-best-fits/ Okay.. there you have sorry I left that out the first post.  Also waivers keep the contract intact. That is the major difference in released and waived. It's all in that link from the other post.
    • Okay so I am reading something in The Athletic and it says that Jones had to pass through waivers. So I don't know. I looked this stuff up when we were number one there all offseason and I thought it said 4 years in the league got you vested, as they call it.  Vested gets you out of waivers as I understood it. I probably got something wrong, but when I think about the slack quality of journalism these days I wonder about that. So I went and looked, again. Well, well.  For everyone: "When a player has accrued at least four seasons in the NFL, they are considered a vested veteran. When these vested veterans get cut, they are released and their contract is terminated. When a vested veteran is released, they are an unrestricted free agent that can sign with any NFL team, and the team that released them doesn’t need to provide any additional compensation." It runs it all down here, where the quotes came from: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/waived-vs-released-nfl/ As far as Jones, the team turned down his 5th year option so I knew that meant he had 4 years in, because they re-signed him anyway, after turning down the much cheaper extra year.  The Athletic is owned by the New York Times so I shouldn't be surprised. That paper was an institution once upon a time but they let their standards go.
