I don't agree with that at all. The coverage units have been pretty darn good this year. Take away the blocked kicks, and they have been above average, IMO.

 

They most definitely need to work on the FG operation though. No doubt about that.

None of it has anything to do with Nortman or Gano. None. It's all about the protection

Just went back and rewatched that blocked FG.  It was Ben Jacobs that missed that block on DRC.  Just let him run right around him.  He didn't even really make an effort to block him.

Edit: watched the made FG at the end and Jacobs didn't try to block him there either so apparently this is what Jacobs is supposed to do.  So it must be a timing issue.

EVERY SINGLE EXTRA POINT WAS ALMOST BLOCKED. How many times are you going to give #41 a free path to the ball? 

I knew 100% that the FG would be blocked. I said it three times before it happened because no one was blocking the Giant coming from the left. 

I'm still pissed off about this collapse.

I hate close games. Apparently I hate unexpectedly finding myself watching a close game that shouldn't be close, even more.

All year long, on every XP and FG attempt someone always comes close to blocking it. It's a huge problem that doesn't get addressed.

I REPEAT: Watch every extra point from today before that blocked FG and you will see exactly the same thing.

All game the Giants got close to blocking some XPs, so I wasn't surprised when the FG was blocked.

What worries me is we made a point in spring to bring in a series of special teams 'aces' to fix the ST problems that we had last year, now while punt coverage has been better and with Ginn kick returns are no longer a hazardous experience the FG/XP units are a shambles

1 punt return td allowed

1 kickoff return td allowed

1 ginn punt return td called back by penalty

4 fgs blocked

3 missed xps including one blocked and returned for 2

 

Not too good.
