I thought it was pretty good, but the plot had gaping holes and felt forced at times.

anybody want to explain to me what logical explanation there would be for why there's a map to Luke Skywalker?

this is purely a stab in the dark but here it goes

Luke feels extremely guilty over Kylo, so much so that his greatest fear (himself becoming Darth Vader as seen in TESB) has somewhat realized itself. He honestly believes that directly contributing to the situation will only make things worse. So much like his teacher Yoda - he sends  himself into exile. Also much like Yoda, he has not given up hope. He knows that one day another force sensitive will arise and seek him out and then he will be able to train said person to defeat the dark side once again.

Small piece of evidence for this is Luke's hand- why keep it without the skin covering if not to constantly remind yourself that the dark side is part of you and your family and of his failure to teach Kylo.

All that being said, the reason Luke leaves a map to his location is because he knows one day he will be needed again to train the next person.

I have a major gripe wit this movie that I didn't mention before and it's Leia. Holy balls was she bad in this movie. Couldn't they have just killed her offscreen- would have been more powerful IMO and kept Carrie Fischer away.

Loved every second of it. Fantastic movie, best since the originals and maybe better than Return of the Jedi. Highlights for me:
*Kylo Ren. This is a great villain. This is how Anakin should have been - a weak, impressionable person that is turned with the promise that he can one day be the strongest in the galaxy. He isn't a strong person mentally, so he relies on brute strength. When that fails, he lashes out.

I had a tough time with Driver in this role as I know him as the dorky boyfriend in Girls. PLus, he had a little Keanu Reeves channeling.

The theater I was in clapped for everything (a pet peeve of mine), but I noticed that no one clapped when she first came on the screen.  I thought that was pretty funny, but also a sad lol

Surprisingly my theater wasn't packed and I saw it Thursday night. We have some people who would clap but I had them cut that poo at the second time. Clapping during a movie that is still running is a d bag move.

IDK, it's a very difficult role. I think he did fine with the mask off and great with it on. He's intentionally a weak villain.

Carrie/Leia didn't bother me.  In truth, her voice suited a woman who has aged 30 years, lost her home world/family in a war, found out her father was a villain, then watched her son turn into another villain as bad or perhaps worse than her daddy.  And then her husband leaves her and her brother wonders off.  So I think its understandable if she sounds like someone who smoked a lot of whatever bad stuff they have in that far away galaxy.

I know people are hating on Kylo's "emoness", but I think he'll go down as the best villain we've seen in Star Wars. If you sit back and think about it He was acted perfectly. This kid wants to be Vader (why we don't know yet).  He's trying so hard right down to the mask. Yet when he takes it off he looks just like a dumb kid who isn't sure what he's suppose to be doing.  This kid is a powerful, untamed weapon who could do anything at anytime. The way he throws a temper tantrum and just destroys stuff with his saber because he's mad. He's unstable. The scene where he kills Han...we all knew it was coming. But we sat there thinking "well maybe not. Maybe Kylo is gonna go back to the light". We saw the struggle. We felt the struggle. And then he flips the saber on and we all went right back to being crushed.  He's a kid torn between two paths and it was brilliant acting and character building. He's a human who loves the power he has. And he's being corrupted by it.  We've seen the stoic, quietly powerful Sith Lords that you knew were powerful from the second they hit the screen. Kylo is going to be a roller coaster.  He steps off his ship and stops that blaster fire mid air and you think "holy poo who is this?"  He takes his helmet off and we laugh at his face. We don't know what he's gonna do next or what he's capable of. He's the Joker of the Star Wars universe.   He is what Hayden Christensen was suppose to be.

Couldn't disagree any more I hated the actor and the whole idea of this turkey of a character. Finn holding up against him briefly and Rey beating him such a short time after being nobodies... Was a joke to me. And Snoke was poor in my opinion. I really liked Rey and all the returning originals but not sure it's enough for me.

There's a reason that the movie made a point of showing how strong Chewie's bowcaster was.  Kylo being hit by it wasn't some flesh wound.  It's the only reason Finn and Rey had a chance at beating him.

JJ answers the question of why R2 has the rest of the map to Luke...

The story group’s thinking went back to the 1977 original movie, when R2-D2 accessed the Empire’s mainframe as the heroes searched for the captured Princess Leia. “We had the idea about R2 plugging into the information base of the Death Star, and that’s how he was able to get the full map and find where the Jedi temples are,” Arndt said.

Saw it last night. Thought it was Good but could have been better. First 15 minutes dragged. Thought they could have cut some of it. As far as the super death star. Didn't like the idea at first but it makes sense. It's been 30 years since the empires defeat with the destruction of the Death star.  Wanting to correct that defeat with a bigger and badder Death star is trying to erase the past.

Ren was played perfectly. He wants to be his Grandfather more than anything else. He just isn't there yet. But the next two movies will get him there.

Rye is great but they made her to powerful.  I really hope they don't spend to much in the next movie showing her training. Been there done that with Luke.

Overall the movie did what it was supposed too. Introducing new cast and setup for VIII.
