Panthers churning the bottom

The Panther's front office is continually bringing in players for tryouts.  It is week 15 of the season and our scout team and player management are already bringing in guys they might consider signing to future contracts in the offseason.  I can't imagine another organization in our position doing this.  It is amazing the work that goes into "Gettlemagic" behind the scenes.

For example, the Panthers brought in 11 players this week.

Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post reports that the Panthers worked out 11 players in recent days including DL Ishmaai’ily Kitchen and G Shelley Smith.

Panthers worked out WR Jon Baldwin, G Al Bond, DL Eric Crume, Travell Dickson, QB Zac Dysert, WR Cobi Hamilton, C Tyler Larsen, G Matthew Masifilo, and and DB Usama Young.

I love this team and how hard they work at putting the best players on the field.  It is work like this that finds those diamonds in the offseason.  Good on you Panthers personnel guys.

Most teams have player tryout for street free agents once a week.  Whether they are going to the playoffs or not, whether they need a player to fill a spot on the roster because of an injury or not.  Hurney even did it.  It's a very common practice. Gettleman just finds better guys at the bottom of the barrel than most, Reemers & Love come to mind.

This.....what the Panthers do each week bringing guys in is the NORM in the NFL.

Most of these involve 'futures contracts' for next season and training camp, not for this season. Exception is that Getts is better then most for finding talent. All teams do this to tie up players they may be interested in.

When do you have to stop adding to your roster during the season? I always thought there was a trade deadline or even signing deadline.

I'm free for a workout next Thursday. My specialty is long field goals. I gots special shoes.

You can sign guys all the way up to the Super Bowl provided you're still playing.
