Panthers work out former 1st round pick WR Jon Baldwin

Allegedly, when Dimitroff was about to pull the trigger on the Julio trade, he called his old buddy Belichick to run the idea by him. Bill said he wouldn't do it because they were both big on Baldwin, who would likely be available at the Falcons' pick later.

I remember this kid also got into a fight in the preseason of his rookie year with teammate Thomas Jones (I think), breaking his hand and missing several weeks. I think his first game was in primetime, because I definitely watched it and have no reason to watch the Chiefs otherwise.

He looked really good, but never came close to that again. Then a few years later the Chiefs sent him to the Niners for fellow first round bust receiver AJ Jenkins in a trade that was basically mutually assured destruction. Both guys are now out of the league.

1.  Dave Gettleman

2.  Ricky proehl

3.   Cam newton

Do you honestly think a 6 4 reciever,  with any symblance of hands,  picked coached and thrown to  by the names on that list has any chance at not being successful?

Even funchess is getting better.

Didn't know most of these names, so looked them up.  Position & age noted after each name.

Quite a few are young UDFA rookies

Dysert's bounced around the league. He's one of a couple of names I've seen before.

Young is a former Saint. If I remember correctly, he was on their Super Bowl squad.

Fauria's uncle played for us some years back. I find it interesting that he's listed as having a 'visit', not a workout. Could be nothing, but you never know.

All in all, I agree with the speculation that most of these look more like possible "futures" guys than current prospects.

And Byrd is our only WR on the PS...

Well, we do have 6 WRs on the 53 (Ginn, Brown, Cotch, Funch, Bersin & Norwood) & Webb, so it's not exactly a position we're thin at.

Plus of course, we've got two WRs on IR:  Benji & Hill

The thread title is:

My post is in response to us working out a WR, probably because Brown and Bersin are still nursing injuries, although Brown did play, he was sent on any comprising routes. Norwood is, well Norwood. And of course Benji and Hill can't play because as you mentioned, they're on IR. It looks the the FO is at least considering bringing in another WR without bringing a WR from our PS hence "the only WR on our PS is Byrd.

How so?  He played very well Sunday and has pretty much done what we ask of him this year, and has caught everything thrown his way.  In reality, Ginn and Funchess have been shakier than Brown has.  IMO, working out this guy has nothing to do with Brown.

Maybe he meant injury wise. Is he dinged up stil

Teams are always evaluating talent and this visit might have more to do with next year's training camp than anything this year.

These looks, though, are in a bit of a vacuum and some of these guys who aren't on a team, could be, but they are just having to keep working out on their own and hoping to get a chance. They are staying in shape, but I think they are missing out on getting some of the experience that being on a team could generate. This, I think, is one of the biggest reasons we need a B-league that plays real football, so that players with potential but no team can still advance and maybe even make it to the big league. It would also be a good spot for mid-level players who have reached the end of their big league career to go on and get a few more years of play, but pass on the lessons they have learned.

It is also the best place to train up new coaches and even referees. Once upon a time, this was the NFL Europe and it was a fair idea. Moving it to the US and hitting smaller markets would be great, I think. Play on Wednesday or Tuesday nights.
