I pretty excited for it. But  I've  generally been avoiding almost everything about the movie itself in order not to ruin the experience too much, particularly with spoilers. Either way, I'll wait until all the craziness subsides a bit before I go see it.

Regardless, this, The Hateful Eight (going to see it on Christmas day), and The Revenant are my must see films coming up so far.

Do yourself a big favor and see H8 at Stonecrest before wide release. Its being shown in select cities in 70mm. Old Panavision that will give it the true scope of an old spaghetti western

Amazing set of records being broken by Stars Wars. I still stand by my prediction that the movie will cross 1 billion by the second weekend.

More records set by Star Wars: The Force Awakens – and the film hasn’t even opened yet. Fandango says that the J.J. Abrams film has broken the company’s record for the most tickets sold by any title during its entire theatrical run; an anomaly considering that this feat was accomplished during pre-sales. This is even better news than what Fandango told us a couple of days about their staggering, record-setting Force Awakens pre-sales. In addition, MovieTickets.com continues to report that 93% of all its tickets sales in the last 24 hours are for Force Awakens. Of those snapping up tickets, 68% are males while close to 32% are females. The average age for a Force Awakens ticket buyer is 44. In regards to the format that MovieTicket buyers plan to watch Force Awakens: 60% will see it in 2D, 23% in 3D and close to 17% will take in Imax screenings.

For anyone not ~15 or younger, no matter who makes the new movies and how they make it, it won't jive up to the 30+ years of imagination most fans have let run in their heads.  But taken away from that construct, it is a great movie for what it is.  It wasn't and never will be high art, and I don't watch movies for high art and/or deep intellectual stimulation anyway.  It's 2 hours of unplugging and escapism from the world.

Breaking more records:

Star Wars: The Force Awakens" has set a box office record with an estimated $57 million from Thursday night shows.

The Walt Disney Co.'s estimate on Friday easily surpassed the previous Thursday night record of $43.5 million by 2011's "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2."

The movie's international rollout, which began Wednesday, has brought in a total of $72.7 million. That includes the biggest single day ever in the United Kingdom, where it made an estimated $14.4 million.

The early figures suggest "The Force Awakens" is on course to exceed the record domestic opening of "Jurassic World," which debuted with $208.8 million.
