Hard to argue against Clint. I became a fan at Josey Whales and pretty much everything after.

John Wayne was a bit before my time but I would say Clint Eastwood filled the void for some after The Duke died.

I'd have to go with Dirk Diggler.  Every Christmas when I was a kid, our family would gather around the TV and watch Boogie Nights.  I still carry on that tradition today and get a little misty eyed remembering how my dad, drunk of course, would always get his gun out (unloaded I presume) and play Russian roulette during the scene where Dirk goes to the drug dealer.  My dad would always tell me how a real drug dealer wouldn't have been coked up like that dude.  My dad dealt drugs until he got a life sentence (damn 3 strikes) so he would know I guess.

I read his book and everything. I never read any book that was assigned for school but ate that book up. Made me believe in myself. I guess he was more of a pre-teen/teenage hero, but was a major influence on me.

My Childhood hero was:

Didn't we all picture ourselves as John Connor riding along with the Big Man?

i picked up a hitchhiker on my bike one night and he had a shotgun too.  we stopped off at a 7-11 so i could take a leak and i hear all this yelling and screaming. i thought nothing of it.  i zip up the one eyed monster and mosey out and see the clerk shaking and teary eyed.  i thought that was weird.  but when i hop on my bike me and this guy get ready to pull out and all these bags of skittles pore out of his coat.  i was madder than a bullfrog with one leg.  i don't pick up hitchhikers no more.
