TNF-Panthers Only Team With Both O and D in Top-5

I just checked the leader boards at Sporting Charts.  Here you go:

Offense: we're 3rd in points/game & 3rd in rushing (yards/game)

Defense: we're 3rd in yards/game, and 2nd in rushing defense.

Other than rushing, where we're in top 5 in both offense & defense, i don't see any single metric (scoring or yards) where we're in top 5 on both O & D.

Great post, yeah I figured NFL network was using outdated stats.

Goes to show big BS the yards/gm stat is... of course mediocre or terrible teams like Atlanta and San Diego are gonna fling the ball when they are losing.  Cam running a damn near #1 ppg offense while we run so much to hold leads is very impressive indeed and something the pundits miss when crapping on his MVP stats.

ESPN says we are tied for 2nd in most points scored per game

NFL stats page shows us in 3rd.  The stats at NFL.com match the Sporting Charts stats I posted above.

Maybe it's a rounding thing, as if you're rounding to 1 decimal place, we are 0.1  points per game behind the Patriots - essentially tied.

How is that bending? Points are a pretty good indication of Ws

I didn't see the show that OP is referring to but they put up some stats saying we're the only team in the top 5 on O and D according to whatever metric they're using. They're bending it. The stats I posted that you quoted are the Bengals not us. We're 3rd on O and 9th on D. I agree that points should be the best metric but if you look at the points on O and D both the Cardinals and Bengals should have a better record than us and we know that isn't the case. Eyes don't lie like stats do.

The scary thing is that KB is out and we have a 21-year old rookie that's getting better every game.

not to mention the Ginn dropsies that have left a plethora of points on the field.

friggin' love this team and I can't even begin to describe the feeling I get knowing that our best players aren't even in their prime for another couple seasons but are contractually committed to stay with our team for years to come and keep through their prime years, followed by a plethora of core/proven players still on rookie contracts who will be playing and fighting for big-time future contracts...and already at borderline All-pro or at least Pro-bowl levels despite their youth.

Im outta my mind enthused about this team's future...CJ And Stewart 's contracts will be expured and we'll have 2 or 3 rookie classes to replace/upgrade starters and fortify our team and its depth for many seasons to come.

its a perfect storm and the makings of what could be a dynasty for the next decade.

You really can't ask for more from our offense.  Their consistency has been remarkable, which is a testament to Cam when you compare his skill position players to that of Brady or Palmer.

The mainstream and casual fan take is that Cam is being carried by the D.  Couldn't be farther from the truth.  If we lose in the playoffs, it's not gonna be a 2013 situation where we put up only 10 points.  It will look like something like what Brees did.

They are. But I've found it helpful to take points and yards together. A team that puts up alot of yards but not points is making alot of mistakes. A team that doesn't have alot of yards but has alot of points is having turnovers go their way and is capitalizing on those oppotunities. Yards and points is an indicator of an elite offense, whereas lack of both is cellar dweller ineptitude

Bengals are 4th in scoring offense and 1st in scoring defense. This is why I hate stats, you can bend them any way you want.

My favorite way to see them bent was Cam's rookie year.  "He has so many passing yards because they are always behind," which in fact wasn't very true.  This year, he doesn't have many passing yards and "it's because he isn't a good  passing Quarterback."  Love excuses people make.
