knowing everything you know now, who and when would you have replaced jake

Trent Edwards Maybe

Chad Pennington doesnt fit offence: What offense? Throwing it to #89 and handing the ball off?

Joe Flacco couldn't get: Incorrect, he was available.

Michael Vick: Michael Vick could have been had for very cheap and he is a superior quarterback than Delhomme.

Brett Favre: We could have had him. Easily. There were rumblings that he wanted to play here before he settled for the Jets. Granted it wouldn't have been a good long-term option, but watch how much success the Vikings are going to have this season with a "laughable" quarterback.

Brady Quinn aweful Yet better than Jake.

Jay Cutler Couln't get Yes we could have. He was available to any suitor.

Matt Schaub NO CHANCE OF GETTING This is probably correct.

Kerry Collins I wouldn't have liked him either, but he's better than Jake.

And we could have traded up to grab the following:

Mark Sanchez Couldn't Get How were the Jets able to trade up and get him then?

Matthew Stafford The Lions were desperately trying to trade out of their pick.

Matt Ryan Couldnt Get I don't remember the specifics, but I'm sure one of the teams selecting before Atlanta would have traded down.

I wouldve been fine with Flacco/Forte. We still had Bridges that could start at RT. Granted, he's no Otah, but he was dependable. Then we would still have had a 1st rounder this year to draft a RT possibly? Then this year would be the first year Flacco starts with the new RT starting as well and I think he would've still had the same production he had with Baltimore. However, there is this thing where we can't develop QBs at all. Flacco's talent might be enough to overcome that though.

Well back to reality, I still wanna see what we have in Moore. I want him practicing with the 1st team. I want him starting against Atlanta. We got to find out what we have in him so that we can decide what to do about the future.

Quarterbacks that have been available since 2006 that we could have snatched up:

I will now address these one at a time.

Trent Edwards - not much different than Matt Moore in my opinion and really hasn't accomplished much.

Chad Pennington - interesting option, but I really don't think he brings more than Jake Delhomme does. He's being phased out this year for Chad Henne.

Joe Flacco - addressed above

Michael Vick - no

Brett Favre - lol this after a 4 interception game by Jake

Brady Quinn - lol

Jay Cutler - addressed above. an unrealistic pipe dream

Matt Schaub - yes im sure the falcons would have traded him within the division.

Kerry Collins - i addressed this above, if you'd read the post.

Mark Sanchez - are you kidding me

Matthew Stafford - Unless we sold you into sex slavery I'm not sure what we could have traded for to get here.

Matt Ryan - say goodbye to Otah and Stewart, plus most likely the 2009 first we didn't have.

You do NOT give up a first in the next years draft knowing that 3-4 good NFL calibre QBs are in the 2010 draft. You then sign Garcia in the summer to a one-year deal and let Jake's contract run its course. Dump McCown. Then when 2010 hits...you don't have Garcia...and you fill the void with the draftee from the 2010 draft and work him in. If Garcia exceled...then you sign him to another 1 year and drop Moore or Jake. Doesn't really matter at that point.

That's what I would've done.

Garcia is pretty much poo outside of a WCO.

Of course few here would look something like that up.

Look at all the first day busts the Panthers have had the past five years. Any one of those picks could have been used on an heir for Jake.

you have the entire history of the nfl draft at your disposal.

switch out a player for a replacement QB in the 2nd or 3rd round, defend why you think the Panthers would have drafted him at the time.

Instead of Beason we could have Quinn

Instead of Stewart we could have Flaco

I like beason over Quinn, but think we should have a franchise QB like Flaco over Stewart.

anyway you dice this, something has to be sacraficed elsewhere. Which IMO it should've been, because the QB position is so important.

When you consider that we have both DWill and GODson (assuming that he can fix his fumbling problem), it wasn't necessary to pick Stewart. The pick should have been Flacco.

Great point. We traded away our pick for Brown knowing full well that Bradford/McCoy/The Golden Calf of Bristol will be ripe for the picking early on in the 2010 draft.

And besides...Garcia wasn't the crux of my point. It was a temp fix to get the franchise guy IN here. Not signing an old dude that has a noodle arm, no mobility, and predictable to a stupid f**king $20mil deal.
