Yeah, people shouldn't forget that it's not easy to get a solid QB in the NFL. Matthew Stafford and Jay Cutler played terrible this week as well and their respective teams invested heavily in them.

Also look at teams like the 49ers who got rid of Jeff Garcia, look where they ended up. People always think the grass is greener, but that 'developing a QB' thing can practically ruin a franchise. Look at the Buccaneers QB situation over the years. It'd be nice to have Dru Brees or Matt Ryan, but it's just not that easy.

Imagine Steve Smith if he had say, Drew Brees throwing to him. Nope, we were too tied into the hope of Jake at the time to make that move, so instead now New Orleans has one of the best offenses in the game.

of course they have a coaching staff that has a pair of balls to call the plays that let that shine.

Quarterbacks that have been available since 2006 that we could have snatched up:

Trent Edwards Maybe

Chad Pennington doesnt fit offence

Joe Flacco couldn't get

Michael Vick

Brett Favre

Brady Quinn aweful

Jay Cutler Couln't get

Matt Schaub NO CHANCE OF GETTING

Kerry Collins

And we could have traded up to grab the following:

Mark Sanchez Couldn't Get

Matthew Stafford

Matt Ryan Couldnt Get

So basically Trent Edwards at an unknow price.

Granted teh Bills are ran by monkeys

But I digress

every single first rounder in the past five years is either a bona fide or potential all pro calibre player.

Otah

Stewart

Beason

DeAngelo

Davis

Gamble

That's why I said first day. The Panthers used to own the second round (Moose, Minter, etc), but starting with Bruce Nelson they really started struggling there for a while.

Look at all the first day busts the Panthers have had the past five years. Any one of those picks could have been used on an heir for Jake.

Well, by your logic, those picks could have been used on quarterbacks that would also be bust picks. Over the past five years, the Panthers have drafted pretty well on the first day, especially the first round. I don't think they are unable to pick out talented quarterbacks, they just don't see a first-round quarterback as a necessity in this offense. In reality, it's not.

Instead of Beason we could have Quinn

Instead of Stewart we could have Flaco

I like beason over Quinn, but think we should have a franchise QB like Flaco over Stewart.

anyway you dice this, something has to be sacraficed elsewhere. Which IMO it should've been, because the QB position is so important.

In just the 2007 draft, we could have had Brady Quinn, Trent Edwards or Tyler Thigpen. All of which are better than Jake Delhomme.

But besides, there have been other opportunities to get quarterbacks other than just the draft.

Edwards is the only one comparable.

Thigpen is a fuging scrub.

Quinn can barely get a starting job on the Browns.

You do NOT give up a first in the next years draft knowing that 3-4 good NFL calibre QBs are in the 2010 draft. You then sign Garcia in the summer to a one-year deal and let Jake's contract run its course. Dump McCown. Then when 2010 hits...you don't have Garcia...and you fill the void with the draftee from the 2010 draft and work him in. If Garcia exceled...then you sign him to another 1 year and drop Moore or Jake. Doesn't really matter at that point.

That's what I would've done.

Best argument so far.

That said no one in Panther land would have liked the pick initially.
