YAC

Got to disagree with this.  Generally speaking,  a QB's accuracy has a lot to do with YAC.  And Ted Ginn in space might be one of the most dangerous runners in football, when he actually catches it.

And I've got to disagree with this. Not all receivers are built the same. Ginn may have top end speed but he doesn't have shiftness to make guys miss in the open field like Brady's top targets does. I mean you're acting like every Cam throw is so bad that the receiver has to adjust to it and stop their stride when that hasn't been the case.

I think many of you are right. The scheme is not designed for YAC with more passes deep and intermediate out routes and sideline routes. Brady uses mostly short timing routes and dump offs which are all YAC.  Cams accuracy is an issue as is his preference to throw to receivers he can see rather than throwing to spots. When you couple that with receivers who struggle  to get separation and you aren't going to get a ton of YAC. But for me YAC is interesting but isn't a factor on why Cam is in the MVP hunt. He is an MVP because  he does whatever he has to in order to win. On that last touchdown drive in the 4th quarter, he willed the team down the field and did whatever he had to  in order to score another TD. He refuses to let us lose and he makes everyone around him better. That is my definition of an MVP.

I didn't even mention Cam.  But hitting receivers in stride on short passes is not Cam's strength. He has gotten better at it over the years, but he is not as good at it as someone like Brady.  He has other things that he is very good at fortunately for us.  But if the quarterback doesn't hit the receiver in stride or throws it to a point , then the difficulty of Yards after catch increases exponentially.  Giving them a throw that makes it easier to run is a critical component.

I think Ginn is better at making people miss than people give him credit for.  Looking at some of his returns, end arounds, etc... he is good af shifting speeds.

I do wonder if our downfield blocking has a little to do with lack of YAC.  Rookier receivers who are not as good at downfield blocking as guys like Moose and Steve Smith were.

Ginn and Brown would get knocked down with a strong gust of wind, I don't think I've seen either them of them break a single tackle this season. Ginn would rather run out of bounds than gain an extra yard

Cotchery is probably our best receiver at YAC, the problem is he's slower than molasses, YAC was the main reason I wanted Crabtree

Yeah, besides Ginn, all we have are possession receivers. Funchess is starting to blossom, but even with KB. We're still looking at a bunch of guys just trying to reel in the reception, hanging on for dear-life.

its our Arabs that are getting YAC, which is fine with me...I love seeing Tolbert rumbling down the field after a screen...love...it.

It has to do with this system. Look at all the timing routes with hooks, digs, outs etc. even Smitty struggled with yac since 01. Cam's ball placement has gotten really good but it wasn't always as leadable to help. The more the ball travels in the air, the less yac usually. Whereas Big Ben can throw a 4 yard cross to Brown and he runs it for another 60.
